Im wondering if there is any performance difference or problems with swapping an non/ABS master cylinder into one with an ABS. I understand the ABS system will probably not work, but what about the rest of the brake system.

First, does Toyota list a different master cylinder for ABS and non-ABS systems? If you don't have a Toyota dealer handy call your local parts store and see if aftermarket lists them as different or check online like at NAPAonline.com. If there are different part# MC's for ABS/non-ABS then I would not mix and match them (unless someone can show us why it would be an advantage to).

I'm not 100% sure what the difference is, but I'm pretty sure ABS will still work.

The ABS actuator is separate from the master cylinder.

I took my ABS out this past year and still run the same master. :)

Yeah I know fitment is still the same, and the lines still connect in the same spot.

There is a different part number for the master in cars with ABS though, not sure if it has to do with pedal height, piston diameter, or what... Never compared the two side by side myself.

If I had to guess, I would think piston and bore size on the ABS master would be larger so you would have less pedal drop when the ABS actuates(ie more volume less effect on feel). Just a guess.

from personal experience (ie, opinion and with no qualifications other than being a driver) compared to an 06 jeep grand cherokee its not too bad.

as long as you have some good tires, the ABS system in the supra is pretty good.

do i like abs? not really, it feels like a total loss of control when it kicks in. does it help? probably.

old thread i know, but have a question related.

will a brake system with abs work, if the master cylinder is for a system w/o abs? im not to worried about the abs itself, just if the brake system will work. online tsrm has a mc w/ abs and a mc w/o abs.

I have a non-ABS MC on my 88 turbo with the abs motor. When the ABS kicks in the non-ABS MC doesn't do it's job like the ABS MC did. The car just rolled. I pulled the ABS fuse because it scared the shit outta me.
