i want to buy a bov for my car but i have a stock intercooler and all the stock piping. so the question is can i just buy a bov and put it on or do i have to buy aftermarket pipeing or intercooler? what will i need and what dont i need?

my turbo is running 11.5 psi so i thought it would be a good idea to get a bov

they sell aftermarket kits, such as the Greddy type S, for the MK3 - plug and play they come with what you need.

cheapest route is to just get a Bosch BOV ( search for that ), works great for stock GTE. But if you are big boosting then something like HKS or Greddy would be more appropriate.

Not bad like how? Upgrading why?
The Bosch BPV is the best in terms of fitment, performance, and expense.

Maybe because it doesn't make chirps and whistles?

I ended up going through 2 Bosch 110 BPVs within about a year's time--the diaphragms kept ripping. Dunno if I am just a bad driver or what; each one was installed in the stock location with new vacuum tubing from the stock BPV vacuum source, and both let go within 6 months of installation. Could've totally been my own fault, as many on here have run this bpv for many years without any problems. It's by far the easiest install--Dylan's How To: Installing a Bosch 110 BPV

I picked up a used Blitz SS BOV for about the price of the two Bosch units, and haven't had a problem since I installed it 3 years ago. You'll need to cap off the bpv port in the 3000 pipe, and you'll need a pipe with a flange like JustAnotherVictim said. Once you install the bov and hardware, tune it so you don't have to worry about stalling too much and you're set.

It does have a sound, it's a quiet "woosh." Some note that the Bosch "hoots" but both of mine just wooshed.

EDIT: It's nowhere near as noticeable as the blow-off valves--much quieter.

the ebay fake brand name bov route is a way that few have dared to venture into. I searched until i found a decently priced brand name real bov. I think i got mine for 125?

I have the Greddy type RS which i'd recommend to anyone who wants a bov with a Huge valve (good for big boosting and QUICK response) and its not overly loud. Its loud enough, dont get me wrong, but its a loud pshhhhhhh sound rather than a whistle or chirp since the valve is oversized.

I dont believe in bashing someone for wanting a BOV that sounds cool, as long as it does the job its designed to do, relieve pressure when the throttle body is closed. If what you want is an upgraded BPV that recirculates, by all means go bosch. If not, I would personally recommend spending the extra few bux on a genuine bov you can trust rather than a knockoff. A bov plays an important role.

P.S. I bought a pre Greddy-flanged upper hard pipe from a friend... you need a flange or kit to put on an aftermarket bov other than a BPV such as the bosch

I wouldn't trust an eBay mbc; search for DrJonez's manual boost controller here on the forum--it's super cheap and it works according to many of his happy customers.

Here are some reviews of the good Doctor's MBC

As for that BOV, it may be ok, but adjustability is crucial on a BOV, especially with how the 7MGTE measures incoming air. I'd say try to get your hands on a good used Blitz unit, as it's the only one I've had experience with. Mine looked like it had been to hell and back when I got it, but the internals were perfect so I went for it. Haven't looked back since. Check the reviews here on the forums on BOVs, and check the for sale section here and on other turbo car forums frequently. You may just find a deal.

oh yeah, as far as MBC's, ive been using a voodoo 3 mbc i got off ebay for 15 bucks and it works great. Its set up so that if the set screw comes out by chance, it just goes to stock boost. It's not too sensitive and works fine for me..

The Blitz has a single, large piston, similar to the GReddy as described by xarewhyayen:

bov_piston_diam.jpg

No squeaky gate blow-off here...Just a nice WOOSH.

I swear I was stunned when I took this thing apart at how simple it is...I think there are a total of 12 or 13 parts. But it works--at up to 30psi--so I'm happy.

Yea, take the extra time and get some name brand stuff... I have heard that the knock-off MBC's can get all weird and spike, which isn't good, and can cause damage. I have never heard anything bad about the Dr. Jonez MBC...

As for the BOV, if you want the sound, then get whichever one sounds best to you...their all pretty much the same...they are pretty simple devices....I am running a TurboXS RFL, and it does the job great, I got it already attached to a pipe for $100 (used)...it's damn loud though.
