Hey everyone I have a dm hks knock off bov and I was just wondering if there is a way to make it louder because I've got a friend with an sti and he's boosting about 12lbs and he has the same bov and his is ridicolously.

I'm boosting 10lbs and I have a walbro with 12v mod, f-con, fcd, 60-1, fmic, 2.5 piping, intake and apexi 3in. turbo back and test pipe

and thats about it so just wondering if the nut on the back of it has anything to do with it. So maybe I should make the nut and bolt tighter or looser.

Or is there possibly something wrong or do sti's just sound lounder.

Thanks
Michael

For some reason, those stis and srt-4's have such loud bovs.

Yeah I guess so, so what about the screw and nut in the back I know it increases tension and right now mine is basically backed all the way out should I increase tension or is it good where it's at.

You need to remember, that a BOV is not there to make noise.
It is there to vent the pressure surge caused by closing the throttle quickly, that can damage the turbo.

The more you tighten down the screw on your chinese counterfiet BOV,
the less it will protect your turbo.

Yeah I understand whats its there for but who doesnt want to so off there there turbocharged beast with a nice swoooosh noise so your saying the more I tighten the worse off I am, well its backed out all the way now just wondering if tightning or losening would affect the sound of the pressure being forced out of it.

The screw has nothing to do with the volume. I'm not sure how you can make it louder. I'm not sure why, I just think some cars are louder than other. I don't think this should be in the tech section. But I too am curious why some cars are louder than others.

Well I guess this is just up for discussion because I know what you mean abotu the srt's and what not they always are blowing off really loud.

Okay... Maybe they don't have a stock turbo and the op said his friends STI is pushing more boost. I know my friends does and his is way louder than mine.

Tighter screw>greater pressure before release>Louder blow off>increase in chance of surge!

So essentially the screw should be set just past the point where it does not leak at full boost. If you want a loud BOV get an XS RFL and you will annoy the shit out of everyone.

Everyone loves the cop whistle. :3d_frown: I know mine isn't going to be any louder than it is. That's IF I leave it there when im done.

Density, pressure, volume and placement will all affect the volume and frequency of the BOV's discharge.

12psi>10psi. More volume, different turbos flow different, bov could be adjusted differently, are why they sound louder on different setups. Different turbos flow more/less air and density. Unless you have the exact same setup as someone else your blow off valve will sound differnt. There are reasons why the exact same blow off valve can sound louder on different cars not "they just are". Anybody that tells you that, is just plain wrong, and they should of not posted in a thread asking why it is louder.

All the people I know that have WRX's/STI's run crazy pressures. Higher amount of pressure squeezing through an orifice, regardless of mass (mass == time spent squeezing out), will make a louder noise.
