Ok so my newly installed super show off valve (hks ssqv) has been giving me compressor surge. At first i believed it was only when the car was cold, but now i noticed it also does it at really low boost even when warm.

when i release the throttle, there is usually a noticeable pause before it releases the pressure, ive heard they stick occasionally but i also wonder if its due to me not using a strong enough vac port? im currently using the vac port pictured.(piping has since been upgraded to 2.5 and the prof switched for the ssqv) also the size of the vac fitting changes from the port to the bov itself, the kit had a little filter/adapter that wasnt really breathable so i used a small clamp and put the smaller size hose into the bigger one (please dont beat me if thats a bad idea D:)

is there a better vac port to use? or something i may be able to change to avoid having to buy another?

if not how to i determine which spring to get with the tial q?

on a side note for some reason the recirc fitting i bought from 935 does not fit on my blow off valve properly, is it machined wrong? or for some strange reason is the limited edition black ssqv different from the silver in some way?

the ssqv tends to flutter under very low boost....doesnt sound like compressor surge to me....sounds like the bov itself (not a real concern).

Make sure you're using a port that is pressurized after the throttle body if you're not using the stock port. (I'm at work so I cant see any pics or anything).

They also make vacuum coupler reducers :naughty:

im pretty positive it's surge because the flutter is most audible by the air filter.

Back when my only mod was a blitz air filter, everytime I let off the throttle it fluttered from the air intake. I doubt this is compressor surge.

After further mods down the road with a hks ssqv the filter still flutters especially at low boost.

Pretty sure its normal.

Use a different port directly off the manifold, that vacuum line your using doesnt not always have a vac to it hence why you could be getting compressor surge.

yea.... i had the same problem with my blitz bov. i ran a larger inner diameter hose straight from the manifold and the problem was solved

Ahhh that would explain why the surging only happens sometimes. Would anyone have a pic of a better port to use? Most of my other ones are used and I'd rather not T one off and find out it still doesn't have enough vacuum.

That looks like your egr, I wouldn't use that.

OP I cant see that pic clearly enough. I also got the noisy POS ssqv and i get BOV flutter at about 3-4000rpm part throttle. I got a nice dedicate 1/4inch off the fitting at the front of the intake mani. custom;) see pic. but still couldn't get rid of flutter in that range:(

EDIT: I don't even have to be making positive manifold pressure to hear it.

There is a vacuum port located between lower intake runners 3 and 4 that is used on mine. No flutter on either of my bov's. Worth a shot. i can get a pic when the sun comes up.

Yah I think that is what feeds the stock BOV and FPR. Most of the reading i've done it seems 90% of people get flutter with the ssqv with mild throttle apps., I dont think it's surge, but its prolly still not good:( If I could do it again, I don't think I would get the hks. But thats me.

I put that fitting in there so there was no bends at ALL to the BOV, only slightly helped if at all:(

"Limited black" i didn't even know there was such a thing i just bought a bov thinking shit they gotta be pretty basic. Clearly I was wrong, but I'm earning as I go. My friend has the silver one and was like "ohh i'm so jeaous" haha. Don't know why, you never see it.

On a more serious note, does the Tialsport Q use the same flange? Thats the only reason I'm not changing mine.

the black bov was more of a theme thing I have going with my car, all black and silver, inside and out.

Tial has a different flange than hks

Used stock DSM BOV. unknown true origin... and An apexi off of an old Blown SR20DET that was in a nissan Pickup. Pics will be posted when it's warm enough to stand outside in shorts again.
