I'll probably put it right in front of the throttle once I relocate my battery. That was my plan but couldn't fit it with the battery there. What do you guys think of a second BOV by the turbo before the Intercooler to get rid of the hot air?

I cleaned up this mess of a thread. People, don't reply to tech threads with incorrect info because you think it's "funny".

Go to off-topic and you can screw around if you feel the need.

I don't think BOV before the IC would make that much of a difference if any at all. Any air still has to go through the IC before it reaches the manifold anyway.

..thats what I'm thinking Joe... why vent cool air into the atmosphere? It makes sense if it's a BPV, but not for a BOV, but thats just my opinion.

We're talking about venting the hot air before the intercooler. He's saying he doesn't think it matters if that hot air is vented because the air that goes through the IC is still going to be the same temp before it goes in. Which makes sense to me.

So if I were to go with two blow-off valves, should I put them side by side as close to the throttle body as I can? Or should I keep the one before the intercooler (on the hot side) and add the next one right in front of the throttle body?

I agree, I'm on the same page. I guess I just didn't express myself clearly.

What kinda setup are you running that would warrant the use of two?

What kind of BOV are you using now.

A single Tial valve near the throttle plate should be sufficient.

I have some different setups using 2 valves though... One before and after the IC like Shadow mentioned or two right next to each other. Some using two different valves, some using the same.

I believe Ken Henderson's Supra uses 2 Blitz Dual Drives in a row. Or at least it did at one point. Not sure if he's changed that since then.

It's personal preference, I suppose, if you wanted to use two or not. As long as they don't leak, can't hurt anything. but a bigger single valve that vents more airflow could always get the job done as well.

YMMV:dunno:

At the moment I Have a GReddy type R with a standard spring. The car has not been on the road for a while and I've made many upgrades since. I purchased a stiff spring for it knowing I would be running much more boost than before. I still have some concers that still won't be enough for me since the stiff spring GRedyy type R is rated something like 20 psi (not 100% sure on this). I do plan on running more than 20 psi. Probably something like 25 to 30 psi when I've gotten it on the road. I'm just trying to prepare for that. That's why I'm asking.

Always have the BOV right before the TB.

We're talking flow here people.

If you put it at the turbo, or some where in the middle....

All the air has to reverse flow to get out.

Then reverse flow again once you apply boost.

i guess what doesnt make sense to me is why you would bother? The bov relieves pressure that hits the throttle plate..theres a small volume of air still in the ic piping but not much...especially to make a difference in temp. The air thats rushing in barely gets a chance to heat up, unless the throttle plate is closed...like when your idleing.

I know this is a little off subject but why then would the Manufacturer's but the BOV near the Turbo's? Almost every turbo car i have seen has the BOV near the Turbo's.

Just for our cars in the Design if they wanted they could have easily put the BOV near the TB if it was the best place for it. I am just questioning the countless number on engineers that design the stuff in the first place? Where do the WRC Cars put there BOV's?

Ninja Edit: i will admit that the BOV for the 7M Stock is much closer to the TB then i have seen most others but ask yourself the old 7M has the BOV near the TB and the newer Technology 1J or 2J has it near the Turbo's ???

Good call on the flow thing MDCmotorsports. I don't know why I didn't think of that. So I know what I'm going to do when I get back to the states. Thanks guys!
