I decides to do a Boost leak test on my 7mgte so i went and order a boost leak tester as shown....

I read a few threads on here, on how to do a boost leak test properly:naughty:. Cap off at the 3000 pipe before throttle body, and but the boost leak coupler over the in let side of the Turbo. Where the accordian hose connects to. i removed my MBC. this is correct???

i dont have an air compressor, so i decided to use the Air pump at the gas station. i started to apply air Then i started to feel air escapeing from the BOV [at the valve] which is a TurboXS RFL as shown here.. so i tighten it all the way and still air was escapeing:nono:. Now Does this mean the BOV is Broken?:aigo:

Most likely cause you don't have manifold pressure pushing down on the valve so the boost pressure pushes it open. You can always try with a couple washers in it. No was to reslly tell how much pressure your at either with that kind of pump

Boost through the vacuum line "supposedly" helps hold the BOV closed (I have heard mixed arguments about this, some would say your BOV is bad). You dont have manifold pressure because your not boosting during the test.

if my BOv was broken it wouldn't Blow off correct and my boost gauge would be reading low..last time i did this boost leak test i DID NOT cap off the 3000 pipe and the Bov didnt leak

Your BOV is not broken, it is doing its job by opening due to pressure differential. Gas station air pump produces a much higher pressure than your boost pressure so something is going to give. I just hook up the leak tester to the turbo in place of the accordian hose, leave the throttle plate closed, use compressed air to 10 psi (slightly higher than my boost level), and listen for hissing sound. In some area I used soap bubbles and was able to find a hair line crack at the IC. If you do not have compressor, either get one or buy a cheap air tank, get it filled up at the gas station.

yea ima have to buy a comprosser.... but the way i did the leak test is correct? cap off the 3000 pipe. and put the leak test over the turbo inlet [in place of the accordian hose] or should i not cap off the 3000 pipe?
