I removed the timing cover on my 7M-GE and discovered a dowel pin sitting on top of the timing belt above the tensioner wheel. Yikes... Excellent forum by the way! :drink:
Fortunately the only damage was a groove in the belt. It seems the pin was being wedged between the tensioner wheel and the cover housing, although it was loose when I found it.
Anyone seen this problem? ...oh, and where'd that pin come from?

Pin is about 6mm dia x 10mm length

Sounds like a cam-cam gear dowel pin fell out durring assembly,
better check or you will have even more problems.

Belts are cheap, but pain in the A$$ to change,
but better than having a belt failure out on the road.

It sounds like the pivot pin for the tensioner pulley. It's located where the red arrow is pointing.

Hmm, wasn't aware it was that big. Well I guess it's not the tensioner pin then. I wonder where it came from. The cam pins are held in place by a large washer, so I doubt it's that either, plus they are 5MM and would have difficulty working there way out 10mm with the washer in place.
