Bought a car, but there's no title. What now?

yeah so that 83 I bought, the dude says he sent the title in the mail WEEKS ago, but I have received nothing.

I filed a claim through paypal, but they said it was no foul :dunno:

So observing my worst case here, how can I generate a title for my state without the original title???

Any help is much appreciated so I can start working on it and finally get it rolling.....

He's going to have to file for a lost title in his state otherwise you'll never get a clear title, how else would you know it's not stolen, his car, etc.

you yourself can apply for a lost or stolen title as long as you have a bill of sale, or something to prove that the car is now yours.

wait until you find out its stolen and the police decide to take the car. leaving you out the money you spent and no car.

i cant see how paypal says its ok to sell a car with no title. unless you didnt clerify the title before the sale?

whatever you do, don't file for a salvage title, with a salvage title it can't be on the road, it can only be used as a parts or track car. do you have a b.o.s? try going to your d.m.v. and explaining the situation and see if anyone is willing to help you work out the details. do you have the guy's personal information? i'd go to his house and knock on his door and tell him you want your damn title. good luck.

I checked the car out on carfax, the title is clean. As far as the title situation goes, he said he sent it in the mail weeks ago.

I filed a claim with paypal, because I put it on my card, and they closed the claim and said that just because there's not title, it doesn't matter. So after WTF'ing paypal several times I have proof that the car does in fact belong to me, and if I can use that, everything will be okay.
