Both of my speedo cables are froze solid. I bought the car this way. I have changed the long one and hope to get the short one changed this week.

What I'm wonder is what is the chance the gear in the tranny is messed up from not being able to turn the cables and how do you change this if that is what is needed?

Thanks

Very unlikely the tranny is messed up. It's not easy to replace inside the tranny but the likelihood that you could damage it is low.

yeah... replace the cables and you should be fine... also usually one cable will break... i wouldnt think its very likely that both froze at once.... i could be wrong though... supra is a mystical beast

^^ he's right

The speedo cables break, because they are designed to. Its much easier to replace the cable than that stupid gear in the tranny. Its a safety feature.. love it! haha... anyway, replace em and all should be well.

If the long cable is too close to the downpipe...the inner plastic sheath will melt. Works fine until you stop and the plastic solidifies freezing the cable in place. The next time you move the car, the cable twists up and snaps.

Everything is stock on it so I doubt that is the problem at this point but I will keep that in mind when I replace the DP in the future.

Changed the short cable lastnight and everything is working great. The cable was broken off about a inch in.

Thanks again for all the help.
