Hi all,

I just installed the BOSS turbo stage 5 on my 87 Supra. I have the HKS electronic boost controller and it has 2 vacuum lines on the end of it.

On the stock setup one of the lines went to the actuator and the other one went to the turbo. The BOSS turbo only has a port on the wastegate actuator, but not the turbo.

Anyone have any experience with the BOSS turbo and can help me out? Also, you need to set the actuator - how do I know that I have done this correctly?

There should be a flat, machined spot on the compressor housing, close to the outlet where you would clamp your coupler, where you will drill and tap a spot for your vacuum fitting. A lot of aftermarket turbos are like this in case some people don't want a vacuum reference from the turbo and would rather have one from the engine (which they should do in this instance IMHO).

The actuator may have a nut and a lockwasher or something on the shaft of it going to the flapper that opens and closes the wastegate port. The port must be fully closed. the shaft of the actuator must be firmly holding this closed. Once you have it set that way (you may need to loosen the nut to get enough slack to do this) you then tighten the nut firmly in place, that way the arm doesn't extend out due to vibration or what-have-you after a period of time.

Hope that helps.

Go to suprasport's website, look at the photo gallery of the boss turbo under the ordering page for the turbo itself. You will see pictures of what I'm talking about.

Thanks for your help.

I understand about the drill and tap for the extra port.

OK stupid question time:

I do not understand the actuator adjustment. There is a nut which I can see. How do I know when the port is fully closed? I guess I need clarification.

if you didnt want to drill and tap the turbo, you could do the ic pipe instead.

to see if the port is fully closed, do a visual inspection of the flap in the turbine housing.

You unclip the arm loosen the nut then the rod will turn.

Holding the arm closed you adjust the rod so you have half the hole diameter as preload ie: Rod shorter by about 3mm.

You can loosen the actuator mounting bolts to make refitting the rod and clip easier then tighten everything and you're good to go.

Adjusting it this way will give you the greatest range of boost adjustment available from the EBC.

^Doing that works too :p

Now that I think back on it, that's how I preloaded one of the spares I have laying around, I was just pulling a blank at the time I first post the response. I was close, but no cigar! ;)

Yes the turbo lined up. I have the SupraSport Turbo Elbow. Do you have a turbo elbow? I am not sure about your setup.

This BOSS turbo is intended to replace the stock CT-26 turbo and be an easy bolt on system (plug and play).

If you didn't make any changes to the stock setup to bolt on the sp61gt then you shouldn't have any problem.

i dont have the stock elbow. when i bought the sp61gt it came with a downpipe that eliminated the need for the stock elbow. im assuming it was to increase flow. i just dont want to get the turbo and find out i need a new downpipe

With the BOSS turbo, you'll need a stock style elbow. I wouldn't use a stock one though, might as well splurge the $200 (or whatever) and get the LIPP replacement. Stock replacement downpipe from there, too. This can add up, though...

If the SP DP fits the stock setup then it will work on any BOSS series turbo. I do not have access to the SP DP so I cannot check it for you. I can send you a flange that matches the BOSS turbo so you could check the shape and bolt pattern. If it fits your good to go...if it doesn't just send it back and do more planning!
