explain and source please. define "full utilization". Does that just incorporate the OS or the software within the OS as well that may not be multithreaded?

Both.

I recommend the AMD for now, because you said you wanted a big multitasking computer, with some graphics. Check out my post, i edited it completely. The AMD will handle multi tasking better than the core 2 you chose. Period. Yes intel smoke the hell out of amd in benchmarks, but how much do you want to pay? I dont see everyone here running HKS turbos.... Thats cause companies like Masterpower and Boss make similar turbos, for half the price.

Its hard to read cause i run such a high res... sorry

Tiger direct is pretty good about quality barebones kit. Here's an AMD Quad core setup

I have a 5-year old AMD setup (939), and I've had very little problems overall. A good AMD/ASUS setup is always good in my book. That combo is also AM3 compatible, so it should work fine with the next line of CPUs

Doward, those ASRock boards look interesting. I'd definitely like to see the 4-sec boot in action!

Don't listen to them about the gigabyte board (EP45-UD3L). It is the exact one i have and everything set up flawlessly. The motherboard is part of the Ultra Durable 3 family, which has had great reviews.

I recently just built a new computer specs are:

1: Ati HD 4870 made by sapphire (it is amazing!!!!)

2: Gigabyte EP45-UD3L motherboard

3: CORSAIR CMPSU-550VX 550W power supply (one of the best for the money)

4: CORSAIR XMS2 2GB (2 x 1GB) Ill get more when i upgrade to a 64bit operating system.

5: Intel Pentium E5300 2.6GHz dual core (I already had this, but if i were to up grade i would get an "Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 Wolfdale 3.0GHz 6MB L2 Cache") The E7400 Wolfdale 2.8GHz is a decent choice but it only has 3mb of cache and if had more cache like the E8400 it would help your multi-tasking and editing.

6: My case is an old IBUYPOWER case. The case you picked is decent

7: I also got ZALMAN 9500A 92mm 2 Ball CPU Cooler and Arctic Silver 5 Thermal Compound to help cool my cpu. I have my cpu overclocked :biglaugh: to 3.8GHz and the ZALMAN cools it wonderfully.

8: Most any Logitech product is a good buy for keyboards or mouse. I just got there new illuminated keyboard and a G5 mouse and there amazing.

I would stray away from the OCZ SLI-Ready Dual Channel ram because you may have conflicts with your HD 3650 Video Card since those memory sticks has special setting for Nvidia which make them SLI certified.

I would get A-DATA ram.

Also i would not get the LG burner but instead get the Pioneer but that's if you don't want light scribe, personally i have never have used it. But if you want one go with the LITEON.

The monitor is a great choice it is actually the one i was looking into getting.

The card reader looks decent except you will not be able to charge any USB devices and you wont be able to run a keyboard or mouse unless it has its own power supply as it suggest: "Note: Front USB Ports Require Self-Powered Accessories".

I know some of my suggestions may go over your budget but it not always a good idea to get the cheapest stuff you can find when building a computer. Also what operating system are you planning on running ( XP or Vista)? Also do you have the disc to install it and a valid product key?

I know i may be missing something if you have any questions about parts or installing or just in general let me know.

Hey I'm running a ASUS AMD 939 socket mb as well! This motherboard was the shit back in the day. I've pretty much maxed mine out but I can run everything on the highest settings besides Crysis ( no shit ). 2 9600 gt 512 rdram, 4 gigs ddr400.... on a 1920x1200 mon :). Running a 3800+ but I want the damn 4800+.

I have nothing but good things to say about Tiger. I especially like them because shit practically comes same day since I'm only an hour or 2 away from them.

if you go to best buy at the right time we let some quad cores go for about 500 .Should be around this time since were getting new models in from vendors

Thanks so much for all the input, I knew I could count on you guys to steer me in the right direction. :)

I really dont know why but I have never been an AMD guy. And I really have no reason to not like them, I have just always chosen Intel. Maybe its time to give them a try.

I have however had two separate Seagate hard drives take a dump on me, but always had good luck with Western Digital.

Thank you 7m-gtte for letting me know about the potential problem with the RAM

And pbasil, I like those setups you built for me, I will give those some thought.

You guys have some friggin awesome systems there.
