ok, im not sure if im a smacktard, or...idk what.. let me give you a run down on my car...

1987 supra turbo. 60-1 triple ball bearing turbo, mls hg, ams intercooler and piping, ssq bov, fluidyne alum rad with twin fans controlled by dakota digital fan controller, hks fuel cut defencer, aem tru boost boost controller, aem afr and other misc stuff......

now, my question...once a year a local historic drag strip reopens and we all can beat the piss outta our cars, (kingdon dragstrip) go to kingdondrags.com too see some stuff. anywho, it seems i cannot get the boost pressure i was hoping to get. when i actually remembered to look at my guage i was in third w.o.t. and it only read 9psi. now, mind you i have already made 6 passes and have been raising the boost (so i think)

my 1st and 2nd pass were 105mph, then i turnd the guage to read (a55) for boost and hit 112mph 2nd pass, now heres the funny part, i got slower, biblicly slower, infact i never broke 100mph after that again.

i know by the instructions on the boost controller how to raise the boost. but what affect will having different wastegate spring pressure set do to the boost? will it allow the actuater to open too soon, and dump all my boost out of the exhaust? by default the aem is set to 5psi on the spring pressure. does anyone know the value of the sping? does it matter?

in conclusion, does anyone else have this guage, that could possibly run me through all the "scramble boost" and the "bar graph scale" bla bla. thatnks for any input in advance and PLEASE dont respond with " my times dropped with traction probs, reaction times" this is a "boosting" question. i dont need drag racing advice. been doing it for 20 years. :) :1zhelp:

i guess i have peeps stumped on this one, lol. here's an update

i can disconnect the solenoid all together and boost up great!!! while its connected, the max boost i can hit while set at 90% duty cycle is 10 psi.

if i turn off the cotroller it will go down to stock psi. so that should indicate that the solenoid is functioning properly..right? any ideas as to what may be happening?

im getting pm saying not to ask here, call the mfgr. (aem) or "watch the online vid they have" 2 things...

1) i have genises, got nowhere so i thought i would share my experience here

2) thousands of minds with personal exp is better than some bloke on the phone. :icon_bigg

are you running an internal or an external wastegate? regaurdless of what the AEM is set to you can't drop your boost lower than the spring pressure. So lets say if your running a 10lb spring and the AEM is set to 5, your lowest psi is going to be 10.

I have never had any experience wit the AEM EBC but check your wastegate lines going to and from the solenoid, if everythings good there your solenoid might be bad, either try sticking a different one in there or stick a cheap MBC in there to see if you can get a different response.

thats a problem also, i got told that "whatever your stock boost is, thats the wastegate spring psi" i kinda think thats b.s. but idk. i have done the, "start from a conservative 5psi spring, and go up gradually" highest ive been is 10. and the boost part of it is set to full boost. i would think no matter where that spring pressure part is set to it would be boosting up relativly high... no?

all the lines are good. and i think the solenoid is ok cause like i said, i can have it all the way up... get no more than 10psi of boost, then turn it off and it will drop to stock boost, bout 6.5

well lets say you take the boost controller out, you put a 10lb spring in your boost is going to be at 10psi....12lb spring, 12psi..... when you add a boost controller you are reducing the ammount of pressure that wastegate gets so It lets you boost above that spring pressure by not letting the wastegate open as soon.

With a MBC or a EBC you should be able to boost above 10psi.

ah ok, that makes a lil more sence. and i have hit fuel cut on the car b4 i eliminated it. so i know it will do it. but ever since the new 60-1 comp turbo it hasnt boosted very well. i will try putting the boost controller setting for the spring pressure higher. see what that does.
