sorry if this may seem as a dumb question but what is boost spike? i was told that manual boost controllers have a big problem with boost spike. does it mean like at a random time where it spikes or whatever the boost jumps? now say i'm pushing 13, and it spiks to 14+ wouldn't it blow the stock head gasket, since the stock gasket can't hold 14+?

MBC's are known to "spike" because your counting on a stupid spring.. when i had mine on it would spike to 13 psi and bleed down to 11 or so. it pissed me off cause it would hit fuel cut and then pull 11 psi down the big end. i wouldnt say your gonna blow it up but look out for fuel cut. itll bite ya

first what kind of MBC are you using if its not a perrin you should try it there relatily cheap and ther really dont spike it so it just a lbs. another thing the MBC could be dry and the ball in there could be leaking, just a thought try taking the spring and ball out and putting a little oil on the ball and spring, when i say i mean a little. try that and see if that works:icon_bigg

Well, my stock gasket was completely destroyed at 20psi. It was ok at 15. Somewhere in the middle, it blew up rather badly.

With some good tuning, I think I could make one hold 17-18psi.

Unfortunately, after spending the coin on the equipment to tune it properly, the cost of a MHG and the machining to make it hold properly is insignificant, so you might as well go ahead and do it.

I ran 21 PSI on a factory gasket for a little over 2 years with ARP bolts. It's really all a matter of tuning. (I also ALWAYS ran 1/2 93 octane and 1/2 VP Red Leaded)

Detonation is the gasket killer, not cylinder pressure.
