Boost problem SOLVED! Traction problem ensues!

OK, so I kidnapped OutOfStep's wastegate the other night... :evil2: I also kidnapped his 30psi boost guage and his fuel pressure guage... *Im deviant* Anyway, he offered to help me, to see if by changing the w/g from that craptastic Deltagate *for sale btw, :icon_bigg* but seriously, if changing from the Deltagate to a better *TiAL* wastegate would help make a difference...

WELLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL... Lets just say it made a HELL of a difference...

As most of you know, if you've been following my little mission here, Im using an HKS EVC-IV... I had it set for low 10psi and high for 15psi, because that was the highest I could go...

Well, when I took her for her maiden voyage, I turned the EVC off to see what the stock spring rate was going to be on the TiAL... It was about 9-10psi... Just at that psi alone, it fealt like mine did at 15psi... The tires were sqeelin, that open dump tube even sounded different...

Well, out of curiousity, I turned the EVC on, just left it at the low boost setting and got on it... Well, it friggin PEGGED my 20psi boost guage... I meaan, PEGGED it... Scared me a little, I let off the gas... I noticed the plume of tire smoke behind my car... I was like holy shit! So I pulled over, and swapped my 20psi guage for the 30psi guage I'm "BORROWING" from Bobby... :icon_bigg :icon_bigg :icon_bigg Got back on the road, did another pull, and it went up to about 21psi... PERFECT! That's what I wanted my low boost setting anyway... Well, my low setting on the EVC... I did another pull, listening for pings or detonation, NONE! All I know is I wont have these tires much longer... It's insanely sick how fast this motor can whip these tires around... They have NO chance... 245/16's that are "Z" rated? It's crazy... I've got a set of Mickey Thomson Sportman PRO drag radials... Im going to put them on... *full tread* I need somethin sticky...

Next on the agenda, con Bobby into sellin me this TiAL so I dont have to take it off... I was up till 1:30AM this morning putting that motor back together! I busted my knuckle so bad, it's all swollen and the skin is, well, ew... It looks as bad as it feels... But its all about the LOVE for this car... I dont mind suffering, so long as she rewards me for my hard work... And it looks as though she has...

I need to dyno tune her, badly... Tomorrow night Im takin her to the track... My best with the other wastegate was 8.5 @ 84mph with a 1.83 60foot... *1/8th mile, of course* So, tomorrow, lets see if I cant get into the 7s...

His old wastegate's spring was super super weak. You could squeeze it to full compression with just two fingers.

IJ, gettin some track footage tomorrow, I NEED to learn how to put it on the net... I have a digital 8mm Sony camera, but I dunno how to transfer... I will look into it... It's FUN FUN FUN though! Im about to go sling on ym M/T Sportman PROs and see what happens! WHOO HOO!

And Dan, like Bobby said, you could literally pinch the spring together with your middle finger and thumb... When we pulled the spring from the TiAL to look at it, I had to put my body weight on the top of it to bolt the top back down... And that spring is "ONLY" a 9-10psi spring! It's just an amazing difference... I may still swap my hot side for a smaller AR... Dump the .70 and go with a 58-63 maybe?

The turbo spools very fast. 5psi at 3000 rpm in 4th gear. Full spool was around 3600-3700 rpm. It hits very hard and very fast. In 4th we were still just spinning on drag radials even after they were warmed up.

im serious.....thats how it is around here...ill get asked for advice all fuckin day long...by a million people... and not one will take the advice i give them for one reason or another...most do the exact oppposite for some reason...then they come back and complain to me because it doesnt work right or they arent getting what they want etc..... and they end up heeding my advice anyways....

it just fuckin annoys me...why ask my advice if youre not gonna take it?

It's just so sick... Have you ever been scared to drive? This is HANDS DOWN the most powerful car I have ever driven, much less owned... When I took Bobby for a ride, I said I KNOW I gotta be around 400hp, and his response was: I bet your more like 450 to the wheels... *Bobby's been in some monster Supras, so I take his "feeling" seriously*

The car behaves completely differently... I honestly wasnt able to watch the boost/RPMs, I was too busy trying to keep it straight! Even on drag radials, warmed up driving around, it will pull all over... And spin, holy cow, it spins even hot DRs... How much hp do you have to have to spin DRs in 4th! I gotta get this under control... I gotta get bigger tires... HELP! *yikes, lol* This is insane! I love it, I FINALLY have what I have been wanting! My knuckle busted, swollen, bloody, but its all good! I got her together!

You know what else? The RPMs launch from about 4000 to red line... I mean, its a steady climb, then ZIP! Right to red line... It NEVER did that before... Ive honestly never seen a 7M motor rev that fast, its awesome!

I just wanna thank everyone for the support, help and possitive motivation! I hope I can help everyone as much as ya'll helped me...

BTW: looks like I'll be keeping this turbo, WHATEVER kind it is, lol!

Jayson: I take yur advice bro... You know that... It just took me THIS long to finally get the rest of the shit worked out, clean it up, and have someone offer the use of their wastegate... And to be honest with you, I could've put a 20 pound spring in that deltagate and it wouldnt make a difference, well, some difference, but not much... Deltagates are SHIT! You know that... Look at the sheer design of the thing... It has a huge chamber, but the design only allows the valve to move about 5/8ths of an inch, and the housing is about 1/2 inch thick, so you get about an 1/8th inch flow area... The TiAL on the other hand will open that whole chamber to allow flow... It not only FEELS different, it SOUNDS different...

And IJ, dont jynx me man, I just keep tellin myself, it's NOT gunna break, it's NOT gunna break!

Hey guys, I've gotten ALOT of advice from alot of different people... That's why I said, I wanna thank ALL of you who have helped me...

Lord knows I wouldnt be where I am now if it werent for half you guys here and on SF... Jayson:::::: the guy has been there for me on SEVERAL occasions!

PLEASE dont make this a competition of who's who and what's what, and advice that was heeded, ignored or taken... This has been a process, evolving for me through three different Supras over a 4 year period... All of your input is invaluable to me... So, please dont feel like I have ignored or pushed aside anyone's input...

Now someone gimme some big fat sticky rear tires!
