If i were in the market for a blueray player where would be the best place to buy one? I can get an associate discount at Circuit City but I know alot of times there are cheaper places online for new equipment. Anyone know of a good place for this kind of stuff?

Well, standalone players do not receive firmware updates. (If this has changed please correct me) PS3s do.

I think they have fixed that problem, old stand alone players could not update firmware, new ones can.

Still Id go ps3 and a remote for it.

<---- nerd.... I have a 360 with an HD player for my HD movies...... and a PS3 for BluRay.. I couldnt justify paying the same price as a PS3 for a stand alone BluRay player... Playing Video Games and watching BluRay on the same thing FTW

PS3, PS3, PS3, PS3, PS3...

Why only settle with a BluRay player when you can have BluRay + video game player all in one!?

You don't like video games??? :nono:

The lowdown coming straight from someone that works Retail..... (;))

When the cheapest BluRay players were still $400-600...It was a no brainer to purchase a PS3.

But now BluRay players are coming down in price, With decent ones starting out at about $200.

Benefits to a PS3?
Direct connection with the internet = Easy to do firmware updates.
...Plus you now have a gaming console. :)

Benefits to a Standalone BluRay Player?
Well...If you purchase one under $399 (Price of a PS3)......Cheaper, I suppose.
That's really about it.

Just an FYI...Firmware updates ARE free, but with a standalone BluRay player, you'll be downloading from your PC onto a blank disc, and then putting that into your BluRay player to update.

FYI

PS3 is still the fastest blu-ray player out there. Fastest as in loading the blu-ray movie etc.

Now if you are expecting the shiney DTS-HD MA or Dolby TrueHD light to light up in your reciever, then you won't like the PS3. ;)

also with the PS3 you can wirelessly connect it to your computer and watch movies from anywhere in your house. add in the firmware updates via the net and the ability to play games also and it makes sense to get a PS3.
