Hey guys, I finally blew my HG, engine has 160k on it so it was past due for that. So, i am going to get my head re-surfaced, and put a 3x HG on it, but is there any thing else i can do while my engine is apart to get more power? i have about $850 spending limit as of right now. Anything you guys would think to help would be great. Thanks.

i would say that you should replace every seal/gasket you can get your hands on also, all the belts, replace the stater... and just give everything a good cleaning, maybe even some high temp powder coating as well.

^ what he said, you can get a full gasket kit for like $300 and then you don't have to worry about leaking oil anymore (adding quarts of oil will add up in the end too ya know)

If it was me, I'd pull all the emmisions crapp out to help de-clutter the engine bay... That's really the only "easy" thing to do that I can think of. Maybe replace the rods/mains (another $100 or so)

I wouldn't put the engine back in (if you pull it) without replacing the rear main seal and the oil pan gasket, leaking or not I'd feel a lot better knowing there was a new one in there. :icon_bigg

*edit*
Oh, I'd also look into getting your head "rebuilt", you'll get the valve stem seals in the gasket kit. That way you wont have to worry about them leaking either (no smoking at start up). $200 well spent, imo

If you find the right guy with the right experience, You can find someone to do a good (but inexpensive) 3 angle valve job and mill the head. It's already been stated basically, but I just thought I'd throw in a little bit more motivation to do some more work while she's apart! :)
