Does anyone know how much it costs total to rebuild a block? And whats the diff in price for a basic build vs a high performance built block. I got rod knock in mine and need to do something.

I've always taken my motors to NAPA and they charged me $880 for my last motor. This was .020 cylinders, full work done to the head, full work done to the block, pistons, rods, and crank installed. I provided the parts. But now that NAPA has a 10% labor increase i've been doing it myself.

There is no real apples to apples comparison between shops and type of builds. Each shop has its own idea on what a performance build is and what it should cost. Choose reputation and quality of work instead of price because no price can be put on doing it right.

Nick, if you're looking to have someone build the block for ya, look into Heads Up Machine in High Falls (near Stone Ridge). The owner's name is Walt, and he's probably the most proud and meticulous person I've ever met.
