Usually because people remove it. However not having the laminar flow screen is better than having a severely damaged one. Point is for the AFM's karman pillar to generate the cleanest street possible the airflow striking it must be laminar. Look here:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kármán_vortex_street

It's why this engine will often idle funky when poorly thought out things are done to the air box or filter. Don't expect a perfect idle without a filter or one that sits too close to the screen. Have at least one diameter upstream of the AFM so the flow can straighten. More if the screen is missing or the inlet is near the cooling fan. Especially if near the fan. I mean jeez, this is basic fluid dynamics.

Oil? Anything that obscures the surfaces of the emitter, mirror, or detector can result in bad signal. Anything that changes the mirror's mass can result in bad signal. Anything that results in a turbulent street can result in bad signal even if the electronics are good because, after all, the sensor is simply mirroring the pressure pulses of the street.

I was talking about the OP's problem though. He should stop screwing around and focus on what the diag system is telling him...

Spark plugs and ISC did not set your code, and fussing with them did not fix anything. Why are you in denial about your AFM?

Yea I'm not in denial about my AFM as I orignally stated that I believe it is my AFM. I'm just stating the fact that the code is no longer there. I guess I have to go see where this leak is coming from or whatever is causing the no boost condition.

I can't find any leaks. Bought another AFM from a member on and tried to install it yesterday. After resetting the ecu it runs even worse. Not only can I not boost, if I try to accelerate too fast it hiccups. Also can't get past 2k. Still no codes though.

All that means is you had multiple problems. You solved the AFM issue but now the other problem(s) has become apparent. You still seem stuck on the "swap stuff out" approach to troubleshooting though. Hardly the best way to do things.

The only parts that have been replaced are my spark plugs and the afm. And my test plan was the tsrm. As that didn't really get me anywhere I turn to you guys for suggestions. Although they haven't been able to get to the bottom of it I appreciate a lot more than the ones whose only suggestion is that I'm wrong and font know what I'm doing. I would like help and want to be able to help someone I'm the future with this thread, rather than have it die like so many others I've seen on here that get killed by ppl who seem to know it all but offer no solutions.
