I have been researching headgaskets for quite some time now and just about everyone will tell you something differerent. I have even heard bad about HKS (but mostly good things though). I would go with HKS, hopefully someone will chime in on the whole 86mm gasket fitting stock bore sizing because i would like to know that as well. Just kidding about the 2jz, you will spend way more to get one put together in the mk3 and you could still have problems with it! And have you looked at how much performance parts are for them, it's unreal.

Was the rear timing cover decked with the block? How nice of a finish is on the block and head (gasket surface)? Did you retorque your head studs after 3-4 heat cycles?

I remember seeing somebody having problems with the cometic headgasket.

Quote from another user:

"i bought one from cometics a while ago, and it was about 140 i think for the HG... used arp studs, and had all settings correct, the seal was good to start, and less than 1000 miles later had BHG.... after pulling it to see the problem, apparently cometics has a bad stamp of gaskets, in which the rivet holding the multiple layers together is an 8th of an inch to far to the center, making half of it interfere with the seal of the head and the block... 78 ft/lbs of torque will make a brass rivet flatten out and put a nice semicircle in the head, and will cause a headgasket failure at that corner as well... go cometics!!! they didnt even reimburse me for anything and i couldnt get a replacement gasket out of them either for the troubles caused by their bad manufacturing, chalked it up to just another story of a company who doesnt care about customer satisfaction or quality products."

He pulled the head and NO BHG! Losing pressure somewhere else... Getting air in the system... somewhere else. ...

I believe every cometic mls comes with a paper telling you too check too make sure the rivets clear the head and block...if you didn't pay attention too cometics instructions then that's your problem not theirs.

Exhale breath indoors when warm. No smoke... Walk outside when it is cold and exhale breath...now there is smoke.. My mouth must have a blown headgasket.

Just kidding you fubar. Did you guys bleed the air from the entire cooling system and heater system after assembly? You could be getting air that is already trapped in your heating system.

Yeah, im going to put a PCV valve at the rear heater core hose to the top of the block, so i can bleed off that pressure. Its definitly the waterfall behind the dash noise.

just jack your car up as high as you can.. or park on a hill.. w.e.. and run your car with the rad cap off.... it should bleed the air out.. repeat if needed
