OK so I have a 86.5 in my back yard that i decided I wanted to turn into a drag strip demon :evil2: But still be able to drive it to and from the track. My plans are to keep full interior only changes will be redoing most of the interior with black parts that i will paint myself. I will also lighten the load by replacing the front to seats with recaro's. I am gonna use the good ole 7M and look to make 600HP or more is $$ allows. I am only 16 and money is tight so this project will take a while so bear with me please. I have a few questions for you guys.

1.What do i need to do to stregthen the chassis. I have seen some rollcages but no real deatils on them. I want to make is less "flexy" but still be able to get in it without doing yoga manevers.

2.How much HP can the rearend/axle setup on this car handle. I am using DOT slicks so that will allow some slip.

Like I said this will take some time as i am about to be building up my Daily Driver Supra aswell. When that time comes this car will be put on the back burner but will not be forgotten.

Well so far today i got the interior all removed including the dash. The car was already stripped of its motor and tranny a while back beacuse it was N/A with a W58 :3d_frown: A R154 is in order for this one.I will get some pics up for you all later on in the week. I am still trying to figure out how i am gonna drive it to the track with open exaughst and a race built motor...oh well a trailer might be my best freind with this car.

Thanks for stoping by stay tuned for updates.

I did not know of this i will have to look into it. I was just gonna use a R154 with a line lock and a 2 stage so i can get boost from the start. Oh one more question i had was how much of a ass cramp is it to drop a fuel cell into the car?

you may not need to, several people like upgradedsupra welded in a sump onto the stock tank to use a bigger fuel pump. I can't remember exactly what he was using, a1000 or something...

best option would be to swap an auto in my opinion, i may be more work and cash but in the end you should see faster times. throw a trans break and sticky tires on there and that ought to help with launches.

lol the lack of a stock tank could be a problem, albeit a minor one.

maby go searching through some local scrap yards for a mk3. if that fails you can always go the fuel cell route. I cant help ya too much when it comes to the fuel cell and mounting as i have never seen the need to go that route myself for my own project.

another good peice of literature to read is outofstep's gude to drag strip success. It ought to help a little along the way and a bit more when the project is done.

ill try and find a link for ya!

One thing I would say is consult a fabricator that builds cages and knows what he is doing. There are rules and regulations for different classes of racing and it would suck to have to cut your cage out and re-do it. Plus a roll cage can be very dangerous if not designed, welded, and installed correctly with the proper restraints and seats. I have seen more cages at import car shows that would cause injury then ones that would help. Just my .02

well if its a track only car you might want to consider any stereo / heater controll related electronics and wireing allong with the heater core.

every little bit helps!

yeah is there anyway to find out what all is behind the dash in the way of wiring that makes the car run i dont wanna cut a wire that makes the car run. All i want is to drag it and drive it back and forth to the track so no AC no heat no radio.

im not sure if you can have AC or not...

I have a FFIM and AC, but im 1JZ powered so thats cheating.

Someone on here may have a wiring diagram or a little more knowledge when it comes to hacking out useless electronics behind the dash. You might need to pop a seperate post up in the Tech section if no one wanders in here.
