Use JB Weld and get a tap and die set. Build up the area with JB weld and drill and tap it to accept the correct screw. When you put the valve cover back on use alot of RTV Gray around that area and tighten the screw down snug. I would also suggest you get a new valve cover gasket. Make sure you remove all the metal filings out of the head too!!
If JB Weld doesn't work you could always have a guy braze that area and drill it out. Makes sure you unplug the injector thats next to it.
Another way to do it would be to get a fender washer and a nut and put the valve cover on and thread the nut through so that it comes all the way out of the bottom of the broken flange. Then.. put a fender washer under there and nut it from the bottom. It doesn't really have to be that tight... especially if you have a new valve cover gasket and you are using RTV sealant.

A+^^^ For the help, and answering his question. I was thinking the same thing. Only put a few rags in/on the cams so clean up is a little easer.

Or just a shit ton of RTV sealent around that spot on the cam cover and hope for the best.

hell just go ahead and weld the valves covers to the head, you wont even need gaskets and screw any more!! that will solve all your problems.

the sad thing is that when i worked at the volvo dealership a customer actually used jb weld on his valve cover bc it was leaking and he didnt want to pay to have it fixed. he went all the way around it.

Do you guys just not read?

I told you IN POST #3 not to use JB weld.

You do understand that aluminum expands when it warms up right?

You do understand that the JB Weld does not expand at the same rate, right?

You do understand that the JB Weld WILL FAIL, right?

Suprabad told you exactly how to fix it. I believe the labor (as you need to machine that area back completely flat) will be cost-prohibitive, however.

If I were you, I'd be looking for a new head.

Shit like this is why the 7M has such a bad rap. :3d_frown:

I come from a land down under
:nono: Can't believe some of the "glue fixes" suggested....

Only repair that has a chance of working is TIG welding but it's going to cost a bundle to do correctly and I doubt the kid has access to the equipment needed let alone the $ to pay someone to do it.

Find another head and don't let your Dad touch the car ever again.
