Hey people,

seems like a lot of people are doing this lately, so here's my version. I hope you all like it :)

First things first, my first Supra was a GA70, i loved it so much that after its demise i knew i had to own another one.

I was doing the usual forum trawl one day in February when, by some strike of fate, i entered an importer site and seen a Super White IV JZA70 Twin Turbo R. It was just sensational and i knew i just had to have it. A few days later, and it was all mine :biglaugh:

It landed in Australia in late April and it was certainly a little rough around the edges

Immediately it was given a good wash, however the black stains remained.

It was time for a much more detailed clean!

Once it was all cleaned up i thought it looked a million dollars. Below are a few other pics of how it came up :icon_bigg

p1023806_2.jpg

Not terribly great whel fitment
p1023806_3.jpg

The interior was a little worn

p1023806_5.jpg

The engine bay was a bit plain

Except for this cool Air Dancer!

Since previously owning a Supra, i knew suspension needed some attention. Even though it came with RS*R springs and Toyota / Bilstein shocks, a set of Tein Type Flex coilovers were fitted along with a set of Whiteline front and rear swaybars

p1023807_2.jpg

I love racing and it didn't take long before i was out on the race track! Unfortunately #70 was taken :(

p1023807_4.jpg

Not long after this i decided that the factory intercooler was insufficient for my current and future application/s. I found this Trust replacement and decided it was the right one for me

p1023807_8.jpg

I also purchased an Apexi SAFC & AVCR to make the most of this new breathing ability

p1023807_9.jpg

I also managed to get my hands on a factory R Momo wheel with cover and rear sunshade, which i think is cool

It wasn't too long after this that i discovered i had sheared engine mounts

p1023808_1.jpg

And so a custom made set of solid engine mounts were sourced from here in Australia. These mounts are sensational, the motor has absolutely no movement at all, although there is a small sacrifice in comfort (but hey, it was never built to be comfortable!)

p1023808_2.jpg

After the day at the track, it also became evident that brakes needed some attention. At the time i couldn't justify spending thousands on AP Racing or Brembo setups, and i personally don't like using adaptor brackets to 'retro - fit' other brakes. So this left me with the option of upgrading rotors, pads, lines and fluid.

I used RDA (an Australian brand i believe) slotted rotors all round, EBC Redstuff & Greenstuff pads front & rear respectively, custom made braided lines all round and PBR 'race' fluid with a sub 600 degree C boiling point.

While i was getting braided lines made up i decided to get the rubber section of clutch line made as well

The car had been off the road for a few months previous to this stage with rapidly dying turbos.

After lots and lots of research, i decided the most suitable option for my needs was to recore the ct12a's with Garrett Ball Bearing cores, suitable to achieve 300rwkW or 400rwhp.

By fate (?) i somehow stumbled across a complete GReddy T67-25g kit that was going to work out cheaper than doing the re-core. The kit included the turbo (obviously!), genuine GReddy stainless steel manifold, GReddy 50mm external wastegate, 3.5" dump into front pipe and oil feed & return lines. Plus, it had that coolness factor associated with going big single :biglaugh:

With things firmly in motion, i also found out that this particular turbo had a modified exhaust wheel. Instead of housing the 10cm^2 housing the standard T67 comes with, it had a TD07 14cm^2 exhaust wheel machined in, Bargain!

And so it was time to be rid of those pesky ct12a's...and omg what a shit of a job that was!

p1023814_1.jpg

p1023814_2.jpg

p1023814_3.jpg

And then the joys of bolting the new one on!

p1023814_4.jpg

p1023814_5.jpg

p1023814_6.jpg

p1023814_7.jpg

Then it was off to the fabricator to get the dump pipe on and make up the intercooler pipe and intake. Of this process i am only happy with the intake, the rest of it is all getting replaced shortly!

p1023814_8.jpg

p1023814_9.jpg

p1023814_10.jpg

This photo shows the proximity of the dump pipe to the ground. At the current ride height i only have 30mm clearance which is not practical.

p1023814_11.jpg

p1023814_12.jpg

And the final product: In, bolted up and running

p1023814_13.jpg

Final tune, still only running the Apexi SAFC and AVCR was 246rwkW (330rwhp) @ 16psi

As you can see, that was in April 2007, in August 2007 i threw the crank pulley whilst on gate in 2nd gear @ 7000 RPM. Considering i had just bought a house money for the Supra was a little short, and i haven't driven it since, it's been 8.5 months and it has certainly not been easy!

However, there it light at the end of the tunnel!

I will be purchasing a Titan Crank Pulley

sm_photo_missing.jpg

I also have a set of SAMCO radiator hoses

p1023825_1.jpg

And a set of Fidanza Adjustable cam gears in red

p1023825_2.jpg

An Ogura Racing Clutch Twin Plate Clutch

p1023825_3.jpg

p1023825_4.jpg

I plan on pulling the motor out to tidy it up and do some maintenance things like replacing seals and what not, installing clutch, cam gears, crank pulley etc

I will also be getting a Bride Zeta III for the drivers seat and retrimming the standard Recaro's for the rest.

The other major plan for the near future is a set of black 18" Work Meisters in some crazy size and offset

p1023825_5.jpg

Future plans are fuel upgrades, HKS Cams and full stand alone management to make the most of the turbo.

Cheers,
Jon

Nice writeup dude and good to see you are going to get it running again soon.

You know I kind of think maybe I should have kept that sunshade and put it on my car..

Still it looks sweet on yours so glad to see it put to good use
