Stock torque will kill it quick. You should have followed the ARP torque specs on the sheet you got with them. Best get out there now, take the valve covers off the head, crack the bolts loose, and then retorque to the proper spec and pray...

the bolts came with instructions. there were different specs for using different lubricants on the bolts.

What lubricant did you use? Oil, or the ARP moly lube? PM jdub, he may have a photo of the spec sheet for the bolts, I know for sure that he has one of the studs...

Just to clarify.....

The head was installed to about 85-90 ft lbs in several passes. The lube used was redline assembly lube since the original moly lube that came with the bolts was used on the original installation of the head (long story - the head was pulled off and replaced with another during the engine build up). I had called ARP and that's what they told me to use, engine assembly lube !!! They also told me to torque between 80-90 ft lbs.

The torque was correct and the engine/head prep was also correct as well as the MHG installation which was installed dry. The only issue that may concern me is that the MHG was installed with the head torqued once (althought the engine never left the engine stand). I imagine it's possible that some of the factory sealant may have been compromised when the 1st head was replaced and the MHG re-installed although the head gasket looked perfect when re-installed.

A simple re-torque is probably all he needs since he has around 800 miles or so on the rebuild.

So the head was torqued, taken off, replaced with another head and then the same head gasket was used and then retorqued? Save yourself alot of time if this is the case. Redo the MHG with a new one. If that metal compressed with the other head on it, even though they look the same, the other head will compress the metal in different points causing a leak. Lucky you there won't be alot of prep for the new one.

I think it's safe to say that if Chriso is having his son do a MHG that he will have the proper RA spec for it on both heads, if that is the case, then it shouldn't matter which head was on there as the surfaces will be near identical.

stock HG ft lbs is undertorqued, thus giving the supra its fame for blowing HG's.

i torqued mine to 85 ft lbs on a metal HG.

stock torque on a mhg is bad news.

retorque and pray.

I also had a greddy metal installed at 85ft lbs with only the head shaved a few thousands with permatex sealant. I have been going strong for about 18k miles. Good luck with the retourque.

I apologize for that miscommunication, I was under the impression the TSRM said 90ft lbs. I believe we did it to 90 or possibly 85. But yes, I have no idea where these problems are coming from. I will re torque sometime this weekend when I have time to do so.

Any other ideas where my "problems" might be coming from?

So, I just recently rebuilt my entire 7mgte motor, and now I am having a BHG scare.

I have an HKS 1.2mm MHG on there so I wasn't worried about it, but I am meeting a few of the bhg criteria.

- Losing coolant/water slowly and often
- Sound of water gurgling in the tailpipe / muffler
- Waterfall / air bubble sounds behind climate control (heater core?)
- Unfamiliar exhaust smells after running the car for some time.

Any thoughts? Should I just shoot myself in the head? Should I just blow up my supra?

1jz ftw?

Check your Heater Hose Unit... should be near the firewall with 2 roughly 3/4'' rubber hoses.... don't know which side it is for the LHD MK3's, but mines was coroded from that spot so whenever I filled the plastic reserve tank with coolant it would spurt out of that spot slowly but it'd happen... then i'd drive out of the driveway to work thinking "hmm... why on earth is there some water underneath...." and I then traced it to that... don't know if it's a common thing but it happend on mine can happen on any car really..., so check those spots out I guess...
