Hello everyone. I recently bought a 7mgte with a fully rebuilt cylinder head etc, but the previous owner stripped out a head stud nut and ended up grinding the head of it down in the cylinder head, and then ran the car after he fixed it with all the shavings still in the head:aigo:. Anyways, i took the entire head apart, reset the camshaft oil clearances etc and now i have a bare head that needs to be cleaned. What are my options? Should i simply pressure wash the entire head and dry it and call it done? Or should i take it to a machine shop and have it professionally cleaned? The surface on the head is good because it was very recently milled. Anyways any opinions welcome, thanks.

Also, another question.. is it possible to buy one single headstud from ARP? The top of the stud is ground down and i need a new one, but all the rest are fine, and the nut and washer for that stud are fine as well. Thanks.

if you have the right tools you can do it yourself. I prefer to let the machine shop do it. Just give ARP a call mabye they can work something out. Sales & Marketing: 805-339-2200. Order Desk & Technical Support: 800-826-3045 or 805-339-2200.

go to napa and buy some non-alcoholic brake cleaner and spray away.. of course you cant beat the sand blast and scotch pad so if you have the money, take it to a reputable machine shop i might have a bolt available. if you want one. its already used...i mean "seasoned"...

Let me know if you have a STUD. Not worried if its used.

I thought about the whole brake clean thing, but im worried about metal shavings being stuck in there, under all the valve train castings. I feel like a high pressure type of wash would be better to blast all that crap out of there so i don't end up destroying my new engine.

If the head is assembled, and you don't want to disassemble, all you can really do is put some elbow grease into it and clean it by hand using solvents. Use compressed air to get the shavings out of there. Do not pressure wash it. If it was apart, I'd say take it to a machine shop and have it hot tanked.

I thought about this too, but the cylinder head is spotless, it was recently blasted. The thing is i dont have any dirt or grime on it that needs to be cleaned off, it just needs all the valleys washed out etc, im sure a good wash with some simple water+soap would work great, but should i just take it out to the hose and wash it with water and soap?
