The best upgrade is a big ass wing... ha just kidding. Best upgrade would definately be the "search" tool on this forum. Its an endless supply of upgrade information. But just to humor your question (that we see ALOT), The biggest restriction is in the intake and exhaust. If you are lookin for some good seat of the pants upgrades id say those two. Let that 7m breathe like it as supposed to with a big downpipe and exhaust and a decent air filter. Good luck and welcome to the community.

Depending on your smog laws, the entire exhaust can be replaced, from the turbo downpipe to the tip of the muffler. The best size for the exhaust would be 3 inches all the way back. I'm a big fan of mandrel bending, and I think its the best.
Getting rid of the stock air filter system will increase even more air flow. I would not recommend one of the universals from Kragen...
The K&N FIPK is a direct swap and looks good too.
THEN you can replace all the stock intercooler piping. www.Suprasport.com has a nice set up,just a matter of taste.
And the list of replacement goodies goes on...

The K&N is a good start but a serious smile goes on your face when you put on a nice blow off valve... The greddy and HKS SSV really pull a grin.

Then a cat back exhaust followed by a downpipe (BIC is nice as is cooleze) avoid the non-elbowed versions as they are great fun to install and once you ditch the elbow you will never look back...

Then find the hardpipes you like...

So far my baby is purring.... She is getting a few slow down mods though... Im thinking 2 12's this go round...

How about you service it first! then replace all the worn out bits... once thats done start moding! otherwise you end up with a supra that breaks down all the time and spends more time off the road then it does on the road!

best upgrade?

That is easy.

Replace all the 13 + year old hoses in the car ;) Then the oil cooler hoses. Then all the seals (cam seals, main seals, rear seals etc). See a pattern here? All this are maintanance items that MUST be addressed especially on a tired out (ie 100,000+ miles) motor.

Forget turning the boost up to much or risk popping the motor.

a) how many miles are on it?
b) if high miles you might want to replace the headgasket...or you'll be doing it later anyways
c) fix everything currently isn't working, or seems like it won't be working in the near future
d) after everything is working the way it should....do the intake and exaust
(vdragonmpc means to get a downpipe with integrated elbow)
downpipe and any 3" catback and highflow cat (or test pipe if you will) will work just fine
