Best Streetable Turbo On A 1JZ

Hey guys,

So Im back in the Supra game and have a 1992 Supra Twin Turbo R. I already purchased a t4 manifold and downpipe setup from Raptor Racing for a wicked price I couldnt pass up. Currently Im running the stock twins at stock boost and suprisingly enough they dont burn any oil yet (knock on wood). So heres the question.. I want a streetable single t4 turbo with a decent spool time. My last supra with the 7mgte and a big bolt on turbo I was waiting for 4200rpm to reach peak boost (20psi) and it just wasnt any fun around town. Im looking for something for my 1jz I can see peak boost under 4krpm and still make 500-600whp minimum. Any suggestions?

I have been reading the GT35r sounds like a pretty good candidate but... some people say they spool around 3700rpm and others say higher on the 1jz. Ill have basic mods including intake, exhaust, boost controller, injectors, FPR, walbro, front mount and something to tune (still unsure on what im going to do here).

Any suggestions? Experiences? Words of wisdom?

haha, I ran a PTE 6262 earlier this season. Full boost before 4K, rated at 680hp. (It is for sale, pm me if you are interested)

I got a BWS366 (91-79) on there currently, laggier but not too bad, full boost by 4600rpm. I loved the responce of the 6262, is definately an awesome turbo for the 1JZ, I just wanted something different.

If you really want quick spool with a 600hp capable turbo you should consider a quick spool valve.

Any turbo that doesn't hit positive boost (not full boost) by 2500RPM feels like crap on the street, in my opinion. That's probably the only way to achieve that, short of going for higher than stock compression. A 9.5:1 motor spools the turbo up alot nicer than an 8.5:1 motor.

I know Albert is making some nice upgrades to the twin setups... might consider those as well.

But if not, I'd go a simple t4 60-1 will
Get you what you're looking for. Same size as a gt35r.

Been done before, too much work for such minimal gains.

Go with a GT35 or so, like I said earlier, the 6262 was perfect for street driving on my 1JZ..

A guy on SF did something similar few years ago. IIRC he made around 400whp with stock CT20s.

This is why you get good tires. Drag radials will prevent this, I drive around on Nitto Drag radials.

I would do that swap just to have a stop light to stop light car.
