What size ports are those fr vacuum hoses?

According to Chris Jensen:

Inlets which were approximately the same size as the cam cover outlets (~3/8" to 1/2" OD)

So the direction of this thread went towards catch can.

Lets try and shift it a little...

what is the benefit of a catch can, over routing your lines to the exhaust? I've seen this a few times.

If the benefit is environmental I think we probably are all into the wrong hobby.

lets debate this for a while, because I really need to do something with my setup because as of right now its just vented from the valve covers (car's not really running anyway :))

I think the debate Justin is referring to is catch can vs. dumping it in the exhaust, not whether or not to have a PCV system at all. PCV is a must pretty much. We're brainstorming different PCV ideas though.

I kinda like the exhaust idea personally, since its cheap and effective, but I wouldnt want that crap in my exhaust pipes or muffler.

Thread is about catch can design, and it should stay on course. To talk about something else is to start your own separate thread. Respectfully speaking no hi jacking a thread is allowed.

The whole idea behind routing to the exhaust is that
the high velocity of the exhaust gas will pull a strong vacuum on the crank case, and help ring seal.
It does damn near as good of a job as a vacuum pump.
(as long as the exhaust connection is made right)

This is especially good on a turbo car that has pressure on the intake manifold under full throttle,
so your getting NO vacuum to the crank case.

If you have some environmental concern, and still drive a turbo car,
put a catch tank between the crank case and the exhaust.

Agreed...keep on topic.

There is one thing though about the way the catch can is plumbed in post #39...the TB fitting is capped off. You DO NOT want to do this. For the PCV system to work properly, it needs the vacuum supplied by the intake manifold. The accordion hose vacuum is weak and is only used when the motor is under boost...the other 90% of the time the motor is running, the much stronger manifold vacuum is used. The system is "closed"...you DO NOT want to use a filter on the catch can or you simply create a source for "pirate air" (i.e. vacuum leak).

IMO, the catch can Shaeff linked to in post #3 is one of the best designs out there.

For years, Volvo's have come with catch cans from the factory. They drain into the sump so no maintenance is needed unless they clog up. Probably could be retrofitted to a 7M.

Do what you want Nash...that's not the way it is designed to work. A filter is just going to introduce pirate air into the system....in this case, unmetered air bypassing the AFM.
