I come from a land down under
Got mine from a place in Sydney around the $400 mark + postage
(they ship it in a bombproof cover so it's a little expensive)

My Stopper has been reused 3 times so even if it wasn't damaged from the intake explosion I wouldn't have used it again.

It only blew between 3 cylinders and didn't blow through to coolant anywhere so I'm happy I have the BHG Monster defeated.

Doesn't the thickness also depend on how much material has been removed from the head and block. Or would it be wise to machine off enough to use a 2.0 mm gasket without changing compression ratios?

FT: Correct if you want to maintain stock Comp you need to add what's been removed from the Head and the Block to 1.37mm to get the correct thickness.

Last time I did the calculations I was at 8.26:1 compression ratio with minimal surfacing and a 2mm MHG.

Chris: I can arrange the machine work to be done by my guys and as always I'm more than happy to share tips.

Compression ratio doesn't play that much into getting the right gasket as keeping the cam timing on i would think.. If anything a bit high compression would be more benifitial..

What are you giving up by using the basic HKS instead of the Stopper? For quadruple the price, I would expect the Stopper to take signficantly more to blow.

I would think it comes down to boost and HP goals (i.e. 16 psi and 350 whp wouldn't require a Stopper, but 27 and 650 probably would). Is that about right?

a stocker will hold up fine for just about anything...

it's just when you get detonation, overheat, ect that is when it's overstressed...

a MHG raises the threshhold before it blows, but it's never going to be bomb proof (as IJ has shown, but he likes blowing shit up...)

you should add, "only the second person who has prepped the block and head correctly and still blew a MHG" Lots of MHG have been blown due to poor prep work.

if you have little or no mods the stocker is fine. I had it on my old car at 10psi driving daily. Its less prep work and less money overall. If you are planning on doing a lot of mods go with the mhg.

Tiss: LMAO correct ;)
Cam timing is very important when changing Head Gasket thicknesses, I always degree mine to restablish a 0 point.

Dumas: Also correct the Stopper is a little more resistant when run ragged.
(lean 30 psi pulls with high intake temps for example)

Poodles: Ummm I really DON'T like it ;)

Dave: LOL I'm special :D
Popped one on the Dyno, another on the road at 32 psi (spiked harder that the Dyno and leaned out a touch) and of course the Stopper during the FFIM Pipe bomb incident!

Rich: LMAO

Brent: Well done!

TW: Correct don't detonate it and it's fine.

Chris: They use 2 sheets of what almost looks like plyboard one on either side then shrink wrap it in black plastic, it's THE best HG packaging for the mail I've seen.

0 chance of the mail Gorillas destroying it short of stabbing it with a forklift.

^ when i ordered my cometic from paradise racing several years ago, (only vendor that had what i needed in stock and ready to ship- and they did so quickly!)- they shipped it wedged between two pieces of wood, zip tied together, then shrink wrapped with like 80 layers of plastic. it took me forever to get that thing out!

I think what you're describing usually results in leaks. Sounds like IJ actually blew his.

Yes, all headgaskets i sell get shipped between two sheets of 1/2 inch plywood. The only way to mail them.
