I have the 12x24x4 w/3" openings, which I am using w/my 2JZ swap.

There are so many factors to consider... For one, if you 're gonna have part of the intercooler blocked off and not have the turbo-A duct or wahtever, you won't get alot of flow over the top side of any large intercooler. That's my case anyways. I got the larger size, 'cause I knew about all the inefficiencies, etc and this way, I do get "at least" the amount of air/flow I expect.

So, to answer your question, you can get the larger one or the smaller one (they both have 3" outlets, I think), then just use 3"-to-2.5" reducer/couplers right at the IC, to your 2.5" piping.

If you find that your HP needs require 3" later, then you don't have to replace the IC, just use 3" couplers/piping.

i went with 2.5 , they look like they belong. my throttle response would be a
bit better if i could figure out why she's going lean at the jab of the throttle.

I'm going with 2" pipes since I'm using the stock intercooler and keeping the 3000 pipe.
Once i go with a bigger intercooler and remove the 3000 pipe I'll make some new pipes...

Can someone please post up some pictures of their DIY piping?
I'm currently looking to get some piping off of ebay, and I need to know what would be the best way to fit things.

Also, does it matter much if I would take the 1.6mm thick piping? Or should i go for 1.8mm ?

^^ I tried this route and ended up with 3 different sets, of different sized pipes... almost none that I am gonna use in my current setup.

Go get a few different bends and some straight PVC pipe (2.5 inches), to get a really good picture of the route/bends it will need. Then order EXACTLY what you need and don't have a bunch of leftover pipe.

Once I knew what I'd need (this time), I ordered the exact pieces I needed, but from mild steel. I believe they have aluminum also... good luck.

My recommendation is to not get a generic set off of Ebay, unless you know it has EXACTLY what you will need (you'll end up buying 2 kits to get what you need, but have alot of extra left over). You'll end up spending more and only get 1 set out of 2 kits.

I've got a box full of extra piping I did not end up using (because I went the Ebay route before). Gonna hang on to them tho, for when we do the TT swap into the fiance's MKIV.
