If I Remember Correctly. (IIRC.)
The 2000GT is so rare, that most, if not all of them have been snapped up by collectors. (Usually Asian collectors.) Same goes for the rest of the the asian rare cars, they are museum pieces now, and likely will not hit the auction blocks the way "muscle" cars are hitting it now. (You could pick them up in the 80's if you knew what you were looking at.) Same holds true for most of the cars crossing the block for stupid prices today. (This happened one time before, the prices of classic cars went sky high, then crashed as reality sets in, and people realize that a 1969 Camaro is not really worth over 200,000.00 and never should be worth that much. They are not that rare, or desireable.)
I'm sure someone is saying the same about the MK3, MK2 and even the MK4. The rare cars right now are clean MK1's. Anyone seen those lately? LOL I've only seen a few, and most of them are in salvage yards, or have been scrapped.
Now here's a classic with some upgrades.
MK1 with late model powertrain. :) (Either a nice 7MGTE or 2JZGTE and medium sized single with all the goodies so your looking at better than 400+ at the wheels, in a light car.)

You have to remember that guys with that much money to spend on a car aren't really doing it to actually drive the car, but to use it as an object...a status symbol as it were. Most of them aren't really what we would call enthusiasts and probably don't turn their own wrenches. Nothing against that, it's just that we are different breeds. I much prefer our side of the fence where we actually drive our machines and use them for the intended purpose!

i just saw this thread...lol
i watch that auction alot and it amazes me how much money people will spend on a car. ive seen a porsche early 90's go for 150000 with 15000 original miles and there was a rare color and package from the dealer on it.
i guess i could see a mk3 maybe teal <lol> mint with like under 20000 miles go on there but maybe in like a couple years.........
everytime i tunr it on i just wish i saw any kind of import go across the board..lol

They have Too Much money to spend, is there such a thing as too much money when YOU earned it?

They just buy them as status symbols; don’t you think some of those folks are going to drive them? Of course they are, some will sit but some will be driven till they need a restoration again.

I spent 8 years restoring a 68 500hp 440 dodge charger, I drove it 100 miles a day, 6 days a week to work for two years, cruised it every week end, drove it to every family get together a zillion miles away. After two years it was in need of a complete restoration again, so I sold it to two Belgium teenagers who flew over here to buy it. Then I bought my Supra and I couldn’t be happier. When this motor goes I will restore this Supra and build a hot motor and drive it until it's worn out again. Generalizations about what people do and don’t do with toys are a waste of typing. Don’t knock folks, smile and hope that someday you have the money to play like they do, I sure hope someday I have the money to have ten Supras, MkIII and Mk4's. So until then, I smile when I see folks buy cars on Barrette-Jackson knowing that someday I will buy and sell a Supra or two there in the future. Now all I need is the winning lottery ticket numbers LOL

Ok bare with me here. I remeber a few months back on Funkmaster Flex's car show that comes on spike had a segment talking about the Barrett-Jackson Auto-auction. Ok heres the kicker during the show, before they went on commercial they were showing highspeed clips of cars being auctioned. During the high speed video they had a white MK3, granted i dont know if the particular clip is actually from Barrett-Jackson. They get back from the commercial and continue there story on the auction blah blah blah, but they show the high speed clips again and I see the Mk3 one more time.

Due to the extreme replay nature of spike and the Funk Flex show, i have seen this clip abouut 10 times on numerous saturday and sunday mornings.I'd thought I would throw it out there just encase somebody seen it too.

*edit 100 post :D
