Bad Igniter?

I have a question for the car gurus? I noticed the other day while cruising, the car started jerking as if it was losing power causing the rpms to flicker up and down. This also caused my alarm to lock and unlock the doors while driving since it is connected to lock the doors at a certain speed. Nonetheless the car behaved as though it was having voltage surges or (ignition interuptions)? For the next few days the car ran fine until last night it started it again on the highway with the jerking as if it was not getting any power? I pulled over and pulled out the alarm fuses bcos I could here the brain flikering under the dash; hoping it would stop but it still continued. Mind you if I go into WOT it runs fine it only seems to happen when cruising? Could this be my igniter going bad or perhaps my ecu?

could be ecu.. my buddys car sorta did something similar.. would kinda jerk around at partial throttle, sometimes miss and break up.. changed the ecu and worked fine..

I was having a problem very similar to what you described. It would buck during partial throttle but be fine during WOT. Would go away some days and be very bad on other days. It got so bad that the car would randomly shut off for a few seconds then come back on. Then it got really bad and would cut off completely and would take 10 minutes just to get it running again.

I took my harness and had Jose repair it... He went through and inspected it and repaired wires and connectors that were damaged. Problem gone.

My ECU and ignitor were/are fine.

Tried a different igniter but that didn't fix it. I'll go through the ignition circuit and try a different ECU later, and if that doesn't fix it, then idfk.

Are you getting any codes?

Interestingly I seem to have the same symtoms but my CEL does not come on? I may just have to check all the ignition wires.

i need some info on this topic also..it seems to me that i also have the same problem..it just seems to loose power and buckle and than i'll have to put it back into a lower gear...need someone to shed some light here...thanks..

Wow! I'm going through the same thing right now. My check engine light is on right now because my o2 sensors aren't reading so when I start to go the car cuts out and the check engine light goes off and boost controller resets. Also alot at partial throttle. I think mine is in the harness which I'm going to Miami to get it fixed and finish up my odds and ends.

Dude, my 1JZ is doing the SAME THING. At first I thought alternator....had it checked and sure enough, it was bad. Replaced it and now it does the same thing described here....jerking around at partial throttle, just fine under WOT, engine just shut off and wouldn't start, and then started up fine 30 minutes later but still bucking around at part throttle. Any ideas??? With such a prominent problem someone's got to have some answers! I was thinking looking for corroded alternator wires and then a tune up (plugs, O2 sensor) should fix it but I don't know! One buddy of mine SWEARS it's the ECU, but I find it odd that it all started with a bad alternator.

I have been told by a few people that under no circumstances do the 2j/1j igniters go bad. Hope this helps.
