ok guys so heres the problem, i have a viciously loud wine coming from either the tranny or the clutch area, its only in my midrange like from 3400 and up, i replaced the clutch with an aftermarket unit a few months back and havent had a single problem out of it, and also i changed the tranny fluid bout two weeks ago, i didnt think it would fix the issue but i thought it mite help, the whine happens mostly when driving but ever so slightly when in neutral, but i have a feeling its in the clutch area for some reason idk why, but i run a open dp and i can very very loudly hear it over it, anyone that has any ideas ot thoughts please drop a line because im a bit stumped, still drives just fine but sounds like supercharged, idk,
thanks for any help recieved

How many miles are on the tranny? Any trouble shifting? What kind and how much oil did you put in the tranny?

edited, sorry bout that, i typed it from a blackjack 2 cell phone, so it was a bit rough, but yea, stock tranny, bout 160k on the car, bout 2k miles on the clutch, no problems shifting, and i put the factory recomended 3.2 quarts in it, royal purple 75w 90, but this is after the problem had been going on for about a month or two, so i know its not the fluid, some have said it may be the throwout bearing, would this possibly be the case you think?

Well HAD the same problem with my 89 W58 with 302,000 miles on it. It was in the tranny. Most likely bearings. Had already replaced the clutch and all. Didn't fix the problem. Replaced the tranny with a used one and all that high pitch sound went away! The sound was much less in fifth gear. Real bad in 3 and 4.

Good luck with that.

Well I'll tell you right now that you are running the wrong type of trans fluid for our transmissions....you are only going to speed up transmission wear useing that royal purple.

How much clutch pedal free play do you have?....is there oil comeing from your bell houseing?...does the noise go away why you push the clutch?...need more info

well from what it sounds like ima need a new tranny anyway, but i was wondering, WHAT is it thats making this whine? is there anything that i can do to temporarily fix it? and i dont really understand the technical lingo in that link jdub, but basically i cought that my rp is too thin rite? i guess ill use mt 90 or toyota brand when i swap trannys

anyone know of a rebuild kit? or if its any cheaper than just swapping out?

If you are useing the r154 turbo trans then driftmotion sells a rebuild kit for $200 ish....rebuilding a trans isn't for the wrench retarded though! Personally I'd just get a used trans...

The sound is probably the throwout bearing or the pilot shaft bearing.

RP contains friction modifiers meant for an LSD...it's too slippery for a tranny (plus a couple other details). Use Red Line MT-90 and be happy.

well im pretty good with my tools and whatnot so im not wrench retarded, but i was wondering what a tranny rebuild consists of, what parts do you replace and how difficult on a one to ten for a decent mechanic is the rebuild?
