Ca is $8/Hour... haha

but you dont wanna live here...

whats wrong with your car? if you need some parts i might be able to help...

yeah ..but that is like getting 4.25 an hour nowadays in Cali.
I'd say park it or sell it. If you sell it, you can at least get some money back to pay your dad.
If you park it for too long, you may loose interest in it and junk it.

I would say that could have been the cause of your boost leak. Did you get the lower intercooler hose? I have one, but I wanted to get it checked out before I donated it.

I got a better accordian hose and lower intercooler hose but im not sure if it will hold up or not ill find out tommorow when i put them on along with new plugs and plug wires. Could a boost leak cause the knock sensors to go off?

Bad wiring can !
the shielding may be grounding on bot ends and throw of codes.
Bad AF/r can do that as well.

Ah the knock sensor went off as soon as i attempted to boost. I reset the ECU and was easy on the throttle and it didnt go off after that just bogged like crazy shooting black smoke. The only plugs i have left are NGK G-Power's (Platinum) will these work ok?

shooting black smoke = wayyyy too rich

which meant your air was going somewhere besides in your engine... your car might be ok now... and like suprastanger said, go get some cheap copper spark plugs.

I AGREE use copper plugs instead. I just finished figuring out what's wrong with my car after a BHG work I 've don't to it,my car was sputtering and my spark plugs where black due to it running rich:1zhelp:. After changing the spark plugs and o-rings for the fuel injectors the car still ran like crap. Anyway make long story short there's was air coming from the intake gasket to the head due to me not double checking my work( let over from the old gasket). I read the tsrm so many times and its been a good source for me for troubleshooting. If your car is running do a boost leak they have a diy one some where here on how to do it. also hardwire your knock sensor its been done. Check also your vacuum lines. My car supposed to be done back in january I just fixed it now and I spent some money on stuff that wasn't even the problem like an extra cps an extra coil and igniter. Just be patient.

Let me go ahead and chime in on this one. I decided it was more economical/smarter to get a car that gets better mpgs and whatever for cheap, so I got the cheapest lightest 5 spd RWD non interference car out there, the Miata.

After maintenance, I've spent 2 or 3 times what I bought the Supra for. Miata has been towed 3 times and left me on the side of the road looking for water to dump in the radiator a few more. I've never towed my Supra and the only time it left me on the side of the road was the night I bought it when the throttle set screw thought 3k RPM was a good place to idle. I unscrewed it back to about 800 RPM and that was that.

Last month was 2 years of me owning and driving the Miata, and with all of the problems it has given me (especially when the previous owners were an old couple) its just not worth it. The Supra is built better, much more comfortable, sounds better (especially with a venting type S and open wastegate), and just all around more reasonable. I am now coming home from college this summer to save up for a FFIM and FMIC so I can use the Supra as a DD again.

You'll come back. The Supra really is the best car out there. I could list why, but my post was already long.

I don't know if you remember me or not, but I met you at Texas, I would say I was the goofy white boy, but there was no shortage of those at the Tx2k8. The plugs you need are 6097's, and not whatever was posted a few posts ago. It sounds like you have it abouit worked out. If you still get a code 52, then you may want to look into a new wiring kit from Shaeff. It is one of the best things you can do for your car if you keep throwing that code. Good luck and I hope you get your car running sooner than later.

Hey, give me a call if you still need some parts. I have a stock CT26, coil packs, ecu and a few other things that I can get rid of cheaply to help a supra stay on the road.

Jesus man we kinda have similar problems but get this i am not working and my dad helps me with my car. some how I figure out wats to earn money but other then that nada. we've been through alot with my supra from the turbo to AFM to knock sensors to the starter radiator, broken switches broken blinker lever. and yet there is still alot more it needs. on top of that my car has been in an accident and we replaced the front bumper one fender a whole door and target top. My Supra is a 1989 Turbo Targa 5SPD TEMS... so its hard to find anything and yet I have a budget of ZERO dollars. ive got only intake exhuast short shifter cd player steering wheel and up graded headlights.... So ive been lucky. Never give up man look for deals and always come here for help man. The Supra is the type of car that sticks with you for life its a part of you so don't let it die....

I'm coming a bit late to this, but I agree - you need a better paying job.

dude mcdonalds employees around where I live make anywhere from $7 hourly for the kids and up to $9 for the 18 and up age range

The McDonald's 1/2 mile away from me starts out high school students at $8/hr....I could walk in there, with a flexible schedule *and previous McD experience* and ask for $9-10/hr...and get it.

Either way, good luck with everything.

I didn't expect this much support from you guys. Thanks you guys are great this truly is the best community out there. I need to figure out why im getting bad milage and why my car seems have a rough idle when the A/C isn't on

I just sold my supra, but I'll have another one soon enough..... I didn't have patience to always be tinkering on it, and I didn't have the money to completely go through and build it so it could be reliable. My bike will hold me over for now, but I'll have a supra before too long.

Although you do need a better job. You guys are not taking into account the cost of living in certain areas..
Come on now....San Fran., yea your min. wage might be almost $10 an hour but pretty much anywhere in cali is an expensive place to live. Cali is probably the most expensive state to live in. Same with Fla.. Your cost of living is higher than in middle of the country states.

My advice...When you can, get a cheap DD.
I had a DD before i got the Supra realizing that the Supra would need occasional downtime for work. Its a 20 year old car, it will have problems. It is also not the friendliest car to drive for good gas mileage.. I drive a 4 cyl civic..All these guys can laugh at me all they want but i get 29mpg..they do not.

Also before you decide to ditch the Supra, check the simplest stuff first..Your accordian pipe is a fine example.. And if you ever do decide to ditch the Supra forever, at least sell it to someone on the boards that you know will take care of it...just my .02

Check out this thread for a good bit of tips.

http://www.supramania.com/forums/showthread.php?t=72201&highlight=mileage

Also, if you drive the car without boosting at all, it will help alot. Good luck with that! You should also start to pay attention to the red lights a little more. If you are on a busy street with a lot of lights, and you leave a light at about the time the next one starts to turn red.......take it out of gear and coast, while letting the car idle. Who cares if you are letting off while everyone else is still gassing it. Hopefully your coasting will allow the light to change back before you have stopped, and you can save some of the accelerating you would have done if you hurried up and got there and were sitting waiting. If the guy be hind you gets pissed, he can live pissed or change lanes. He doesn't buy your gas. If he hits you, it's his fault. I'm not saying to impede traffic too much, just don't waste the gas to get there and sit.

You can also see a stale light turning as soon as someone comes up from the side roads. Either slightly increase your speed to make it if you are close enough, or get ready to let off.

Remember that anytime you use your brakes or downshift, you are using gas you didn't have to if you would have just planned better.
