Backfires and pops, what does it?

Today as I was cruising down 680 with a Mercedes convertible next to me.Boosted on and off. Then I decided to get on it went he car was next to me. Both windows were down, and I hear what reminds me of a gunshot.

I know I shot a flame. Cool. I scared the woman in the car as I saw her jump LOL

But I want to know what exactly is at play when a flame shoots from the exhaust or you get the rumbles pops and cracks as you ease on the gas?

i scared the shit out of some people on the freeway. they were in like a brand new mercedes and i had my down pipe un capped. the guy had his girl in the passenger seat and her window was down a little. it popped they both got scared and then traffic moved, it clears up a little and the guy pulls up to me and screams out "get that piece of shit fixed) i jsut laugh my ass off and took off.

my brothers car did this once while we were pulling into a tim hortons with all the ricers around. nearly all of the jumped, and some of them actually came over and asked what he had done to his 240.... i was so pissed.

Try to find out what conditions make it backfire, and plan it when you ride by someone unsuspecting lol... I mean, try not to recreate it, you will damage...yadda yadda.

lol my old 1jz car use to shoot huge flames every shift (was partial my wot shifts and shifting right at my revlimiter which is an ignition cut (so unburnt fuel went into the exhaust) was fun

never shot flames though with just driving normal though..

My 1JZ with no cat shoots huge fireballs when it bounces off the rev limiter.

My buddy was behind me one day, so I put it in second, and floored it to 7500, it it the limiter HARD, and shot a HUGE fireball at him, followed by a big black cloud. It was great.

If you have a standalone, retard your ignition on decel hugely so it sparks when your eshaust valves are open

Obviously we run rich, but I now know, thats where they come from.
