Im back, kinda, i guess. i moved a while back and have no internet.. im at my fathers house right now for 3 weeks to do some legal crap and fix my red NA supra.

Anywho... i went to picknpull today and was browsing for some parts that i needed to get my supra up and running again. I walk by and see a nice looking 7m cressida. I look at the miles, 90,000. I look at the engine, brand new head.... BRAND new. had stickers on it... it isnt even dyed gold yet from oil. I pulled it and it looks so freaking new.. and i got it for 60$.

My question is.. theres a small nick near where the firing ring on the headgasket would go, its barely there but you can barely feel the nick with a fingernail, and not it all with a finger. will it be ok to use? (head is NOT rebuilt, it is NEW)

And also, is a 5m headgasket the same as a 7m headgasket or do i need to buy a new one?

Thanks guys nice to be back for a short while.

Can't tell from the pic. I'd say have the shop clean it up, they would be able to tell you how much they would have to take off to get the nick out, probably should get it surfaced anyhow, at least I would.

i will take it to a shop tomorow and see what they say.. my dad says its not bad enough to worry about... and i already checked for warpage and theres notta.
To me it looks to be were the ring seals the cylinder, but dad has a better look at it then I do.:) Still wouldn't hurt to get it surfaced, you don't want to be doing it over again soon.

head surfacing is cheap! Better to just do it for reassurance. THere is a lot of pressure in the cylinders, any little path where it can escape, it will.

ok i have a few questions.. on the last headbolt on the block near #6 on the left side, the oil tube there that goes down to the oilpan... does it go directly to oilpan? i dropped a tool down there by accident.

And can i drop the oilpan without loosening motormounts?

Almost finished today... just waiting for TB gasket and timing belt tensioner

Here is bare block w. new headgasket.

You have to jack the motor up to get the oil pan off, which means taking the motor mounts loose. Not much fun on your back, but it's doable, I've done it.

ok... ill most likely bring my high power magnet and see if i can drag the tool inside the pan to the drail hole.

Do you know if that oil tube goes directly to the oilpan?
I cant find any oil flow diagrams or anything....
Im hoping it leads directly to the pan so i can have some luck.

how big was the tool? i would try a good magnet on the oil pan and try to drag it to the drain plug and then use a magnet to suck it out so to speak... it should have fallen into the bottom of the pan because of how the pan is angled inside and everything...

(if its in the pan)

edit: i just went out and looked at my engine thats on the stand, and it does lead directly into the pan, but it enters at an angle, and so i could be stuck between the rod and the crank in there. its a pretty tight squeeze down there...

if you dont hear it in the oil pan, jack the car up from the back and see if you were it, but shake the engine while its jacked up from the rear. and what did you lose down there? long socket? short socket?

i lost the small allen that goes into a socket... a 10mm. it slid all the way down through and sounded like it hit the bottom of the pan.. its pretty small.
