Just kidding, bro. I'm sure there is a way of removing it, but i have never personally done it. My GUESS however would be that it's just stuck on there with some bad-ass adhesive, like your rearview mirror is. Maybe try hitting the outside glass with a heat gun and prying (gently) on the light housing?

YES, THIS IS POSSIBLE! lol take the two cover retaining clips/screws whatever you have on there currently, and once the back cover is off pry it off and there is two 10mm bolts that bolt onto the rear hatch metal, unbolt it, remove the wiring, there you go! :D

Hint: it has a normal bulb in it that would need replacing.
Hint: there is no difference between the N/A and Turbo back glass

EDIT: modmonster, you made it too easy!!

Modmonster: Thanks for that. Like i said, i've never done it.
Poodles: I don't think he is changing the bulb, i believe he wants to add an oem spoiler, and wants to get rid of the housing so he doesn't have four "brack" lights.

Keep in mind if you go to the 89+ wing with the LED third brake light, you'll need a different tail light failure box. If you use a pre-89 wing with the normal brake light in it, then you don't.

What poodles said is 100% true..

I have installed 89+ 3 piece wings on my 86.5 and 89, the 3rd brake light is only held on by two screws, and the connector plugs right into the LED bar on the wing. Also, I have switched out my yellow taillight failure boxes infavor of 89+ LED boxes (keeping in mind N/A sport package wings were LED as well, albeit 1 piece), and I also swapped out my trunk shocks for "red sticker" turbo shocks...

just make sure you clean up, years of grime getting stuck under there will leave an outline..
