And you didn't check into thise before you bought one?

Some of the faster guys on here are using the automatics, and yes, that's with the stock auto (but built of course).

I had an auto when I first got my car. It's a five speed now, and I'll never look back. Auto's aren't very strong... The R154 is a very beefy transmission and can take a lot of horsepower where as the Auto's don't like the abuse.

That's twice now :biglaugh:

You can make do pretty much anything with cars with enough money... I don't think this guys gonna rip his tranny out and build it is what my point was.

yeah, I know what you guys are saying, I don't plan on doing to much, maybe just exhaust, intake, raise the bosst a little, other then that, probably just do body mods and suspension.

With those mods in mind, then your auto will be fine as long as you do proper maintenace, plus there are cheap/free mods you can do to give your auto a little more edge. (line pressure mod)

Any auto can be made to handle decent HP with a mild build..

Better cluth packs, maybe nice sprag, increase the pressure on the valves for a nice firm shift.. yippee.

All of my knowledge of autos comes from 700r4's and th350's, so if I sound silly let me know :p

yeah, I'm still not sure what I wanna do, I have owned a 500HP mustang, it was supercharged, that was my 4th stang, so with this car, I know I can exceed that number very easy, do to it being a turbo, these cars take mods so easy, its most likely just the automatic thats holding me back.

^Hardly.

If you're serious about building your car to that much power and want the advantages of having an automatic...This will be a necessity.

A majority of AT Supra guys end up switching to MT for the reasonings of "AT cost too much to build", "not good in Auto-X", "not as fun to drive as a 5spd".........While all of these things *might* be true...It's all about what you want and what you want the car to do.

You want an easy quarter mile monster out of your MKIII? ..........Build your A340E. :)

Personally, I am a fan of the Auto, and will be keeping it. :)

Seeing as it is just about back on the road after a 9 month hiatus (and i plan on going just mildly nuts) first thing it is getting is a transmission cooler, and once i hit a set hp goal, the auto is going to be built :)

The stock automatic is meant for the masses. A 5 speed can't hold a cupholder to any built automatic. Being a Mustang owner he already new that, unlike some of you.

Turbo auto guy through and through here....The Supra is an auto, the turbo Buick I used to have (*tear*) was a auto, built at that. There's nothing cooler than planting your right foot in any gear, and granted your setup is correct, having what I like to call "insta-boost".

I've been contemplating going 5-speed but only b/c I'm wanting to do some open road races, and road rally's with the car. The auto just doesn't lend itself very well to top end style races.
