so i noticed when driving/riding in other automatic cars, and you reverse and then as your rolling and almost stopped you throw it in drive and it eases into drive as if it was standard and i was easing the clutch out..
now the thing is.. in my supra..i dont have that if i try that. if im still rolling reverse a little and put it into drive and jerks it into drive, which doesnt really seem like the healthy thing to do..and my idle rpms are pretty nice at like 800ish.
is this smoothed out transition from reverse to drive some kind of technology after the 80s or something? what is this called? am i supposed to have it? is something wrong?
thanks.

Has the Trans been rebuilt before?
How many miles?

Factory toyota clutches are not flat, they have a wave to them, and aftermaket cluch plates are flat so it will engage harder if it has been rebuilt.

^^Yeah, what he said.

When I'm in reverse, I come to a complete stop...wait, then slap her in Drive.
It's easier on the transmission and just feels better if you know what I mean. ;)

The auto tranny is tight in a Supra...doing that causes excessive wear to the clutch packs. Not to mention your bands. It would cause extra wear on ANY auto or manual tranny.

Very bad driving technique...just don't do it. Take the extra half a second to be a little easier on your car :3d_frown:

another question. this seems like a very unfortunate situation, but i think i may be slipping gears. i think its only 1st to 2nd..gotta make sure though. this started happening after i changed the fluid..i didnt flush it, just changed it..its not an old tranny, so why did this start happening? did the oil change do the infamous tranny fuckover? and fuck me over?

not to beat the dead horse, but man it drives me crazy when im with people that shift like that. someone i know does it every time, going in R prolly 10mph then suddenly slams it into D. not sure why people want to ruin their trans to save 1/2 second?

You are not supposed to put any car in forward when going backwards. It is called shock load, and can damage driveline components. New cars that you don't feel anything have slippage built into them. Slippage feels nice, but sucks for longetivity.

Dont't do it.

did you replace the fluid with dexron ii? if you used dexron iii ive heard of people having slippage issues with that stuff

the fact yours jerks is a good thing.... if you keep doing that it will keep slipping and get worse and worse until it doesn't move anymore.
