Any body that thinks an automatic sucks, sucks themselves.

Yes, this topic has been covered. And on SF of all places. I even posted a link to somebody running the upgraded A340E on his turbo Tundra. 600 lb/ft of torque if I remember right.
I had mine done by an oldtimer in Louisville, He drove the car before i had it done and he looked at me and laughed, he said "Son, I know exactly what you need." i pulled it gave it to him, he had me pick up some parts from a local tranny supply house, and when i got it back, it was chirping 1-2 and depending on how you feathered the pedal you could have neck snapping shifts with no boost loss. All in all i spent 400 bucks, i removed and installed it in the car, and that was with new converter. I was real happy, he explained to me about the pressure, and the trick with the accumulators and all the stuff IPT and Level 10 talk about and want to charge you 2200 bucks for, you need to start checking out some tranny shops and not the franchise shops like AAmco etc, you need to find a guy that builds his own, go into the shop and look around, any good tranny builder can build you a good tranny, and you may have to help with parts, i had to find a support for mine, the 340's have an issue with them, today i pulled my engine etc for rod knock and the tranny fluid was clean and smelled nice, that was after a beating on the car to give rod knock. That is my personal experience and the best i can tell you.

Almost 2 years since I posted on this thread.

Since then, I rebuilt mine with kevlar clutches, bumped the stall speed up, shimmed the accumulators and added a good size trans cooler.

Guess what? I have beat the snot out of this tranny with 0 problems.

So I guess a340e's don't suck.::w00t::

5spd? I don't need no stinking 5spd.

IPT does more than shim the accumalators. So does Level 10. But that mod will make the A340E eat a 5 speed alive. And your trans will last a lot longer.

Did you read the post? Stall speed? Kevlar clutches? Cooler?

That's "not just shimming accumulators", and yes, on a car with comparable power it's way quicker, especially out of the hole.

Ya its been two years since we covered this and i retract my statement. With the right mods, (tranny cooler, accumulator shim) This tranny can take some power)

I'm running ~326hp daily now and i've been hard on the thing, W/ some c16 i am confident i can boost to 20 psi and hit 380hp easy on this tranny. The tranny is stock except for the accumulator shims. (1st page in build thread covers step by step on how to do it if your curious)

Funny how much can be changed and learned in two years.

I could mess with the valve body and hardened planetary gears etc, but I am way over 400hp and no problems, good firm shifts with the current set-up. So why bother.

Edit: I forgot to mention I'm running lsd 4:30's, so I'd say it's a pretty stout trans.

If I was going to use something else and expect more, I'd have to go TH 400 with a trans brake. I don't think a TH350 would frankly be worth the swap.

oh a th400 would be sweet :) but i think an upgraded a340e would be good enough for my uses hehe
