Hi Guys,

After getting the other problem resolved (but not totally fixed yet), I'm now looking at the tranny not shifting out of 1st issue. The first thing I did was, remembered reading about the codes that "Mister Cripsy" had sent me to. The second thing I did was I opened my manual (since I don't have my computer in my garage) and followed how to test for the possible codes.

At first I didn't think I would find anything, but then it happened. 6 blinks, pause, 1 blink, pause, repeat.

Code 61 "Defective No2 speed sensor (in ATM)-severed wire harness or short circuit."

So I read through the manual a little more and found where the No2 speed sensor was. I already had the car up on ramps and jack stands, so I crawled under and pulled the tranny mount off (while having the jack hold the tranny in place) and then pulled out the No2 speed sensor. ( know, you really don't need to pull the mount off, but I just couldn't get my hands up there to disconnect the sensor)

I found it interesting that the O-ring was in two pieces and had been glued back in place with silicon. I pulled it out, cleaned it up and put it back in place and then "tested" it by putting a Ohm meter to it and ground. While spinning the wheels, I did not get any kind of a reading from it.

Also, while I had it out, I saw where its cover was bent and there was a small gap between the cover and the unit. Like some one hit it with something. Now this is a JDM tranny that I had installed back in January and it was working just fine until my son took it into a shop to diagnoise the idle issue.

I don't know if the shop screwed something up or not, but I'll never have any of my cars back in there, that's for sure! And I also have a Tacoma and a Highlander, besides the Supra and my son's Paseo.

Now back to the tranny. Has anyone ever had a No2 Speed Sensor go out on them? Is this a part that I should go to the stealer to buy or is it something that seldom goes out and a used part would work just fine?

Thanks,

were you using an analog or digital meter when you did the testing?

on a digi meter its a lot harder to test since it happens so fast.

either way, id just pick up a used one. its not a high failure item and i believe new they are on the spendy side.

I used an analog meter.

Okay, I'll check for a used one then, thanks!

I was able to pick up a No2 Speed Sensor from the shop I bought the engine and tranny from. I installed it and cleared the codes, then re-ran the diagnostics and looks like that cleared up that issue. ::w00t::

I then pulled off the speedo cable and found the short little part of the cable that makes the quick turn was broken. So now I need to find a new one of those. :icon_conf

One question I have, should the transmission still shift, even with a broken speedometer cable? Because it's not shifting at all and even feels like its going into neutral where it should shift. I'm hoping that I don't have other problems with it. :3d_frown:
