Alright heres the deal... My auto tranny crapped out on me, just sat and slipped forever. I had a mk2 with a perfectly fine W58 in it so I took that out and dropped it in the mk3. I got all the extra parts needed and finally got it running the other day but the speedo doesnt work. It didnt work in the mk2 but I knew the problem was the cable since it was pretty much just hanging from the car. I took out the speedo gear and cleaned it all up and it looked and spun fine. So I put it back in and matched it up with the speedo cable in the mk3 since it all threaded up the same and I dont know why it doesnt work? I know in some cars the gear is off-set so you rotate the carrier to get it to match up in the tranny but this one didnt look that way, or is this the case? A side note I should add is that this tranny has only one sensor which I beleive is just the reverse light sensor. Are there other electronics involved on the mk3 W58's and does the speedo need this to work? As far as I can tell its all mechanical and everything appears to be in good working order...help?
