Who makes a good automatic transmission rebuild kit? Does anyone offer a shift kit for my 91 turbo? I think I feel my transmission slipping a little between gears when I get on it pretty hard. It shifts out perfect when I'm not racing it. I have recently dynod at 317 rwhp and I've ordered a bic ddp that hasn't got to me yet. I hope it helps with hp just a little bit. I'm open to any suggestions about my transmission. I'm not really looking to go to a five speed swap right now. I thought I would probably get about ten suggestions for that. Thanks for your help.:1zhelp:

Come on guys. I know somebody on here has upgraded there auto tranny. Does everyone just do a 5 speed swap? Someone give me some good sound advice about where to buy a shift kit at. I called Seco performance and they do not offer anything for the 91 supra.

Yes you can...I used these guys:
http://www.importperformancetrans.com/

Sound Performance does an upgrade on the Auto as well, but are a little more expensive. Stay away from Level 10 like the plague.

This is not something you really want to do yourself, unless you have experience working on autos. I had mine fully built with a 3000 stall torque converter. I also have a TRD LSD w/ 3.90 ratio gear installed...the aluminum driveshaft is ordered and should be here next week. There's not a 5 speed out there that will out-shift me :naughty:.....my car will bark the 275/18 wheels I have on the rear on a boosted shift to 2nd gear.

I want to warn you...this is expensive. The 5 speed conversion is much cheaper. I chose this route because I like auto trannys...I guess I'm lazy. Plus, if you've ever look at dragsters, they're all autos. An auto tranny (if properly built) will keep you in the boost power band and if combined with a shift computer, will allow you to utilize a F1 paddle type shifter. The downside to an auto is it is less efficent at getting power to the ground...you will lose RWHP vs a manual with the same motor. Thats why I upgraded my entire drive train to the rear wheels

I'm not trying to start a manual vs auto flame thread here. I like auto trannys (have since my SS 396 w/ a Turbo 400 days) and will likely not ever change...I just have to up the HP on the motor to compensate :evil5:

Thanks alot Jdub. I'm not wanting to do the five speed swap either. I like my auto. I will buy the upgrade kit for 589.00 . I'm going to call them and see if that is the same as a shift kit. What did you order for your car? Did you have them build the tranny or did you do it yourself? I'm going to have my neighbor help me with mine. Him and his brother are good with transmissions and all mechanical problems.

Sorry for the hijack, but at what horsepower do you need to rebuild the auto tranny or swap it out for the manual?

I read somewhere and I dont know where, that over 300 rwhp was all the stock auto could handle. My auto works o.k. but it does feel like it's slipping a little when I get on it real hard.
