I have an auto and it is fairly quick but I am swapping to a 5 speed, and fortifying it, I like being able to control shift points and its more fun autos are so boring.

I've not come accross any documentation to support that (yet at least). If there's any difference, I'd suspect it to be in the torque convertor and/or the way the engine ECU talks to the transmission ECT.Ma70.Ent said:

And that proves what? That somebody that races an automatic is consentrating on tuning instead?

im currently running auto.. there is noting like building 2 psi then shifting to second, and watching your boost gauge jump from 2-6 pounds ..
i really love having the auto tranny, i can leave a burn out all day long.. through second gear. probaly into third gear.

When was the last time a DOHC high tech engine of any sort won an NHRA funny car event? Or pro stock? Or top fuel? How about never.
There are part number differences between the TWC and TWT auto trans models (Valve body for example).
Thanks for clearing that up Nick and 3p. I came to a similar conclusion in my own investigating! They're both A340Es so that's what threw me.

i just drove my friends 89T AT and couldn't believe how strong that tranny shifted. But it could be because my DD is a AT Focus ZX5 (130 crippled horses)
That is especially when you should run an auto.
As I already said, the torque converter is a fluid coupling. So there is a power loss through slippage. On a full race car, they use a different set up altogether.
