At least it's warmer than the South Pole (better known as "global warming my ass!")

So, it was -19° F AMBIENT when I pulled into the office today. Don't think my car has ever had that much trouble starting. My passenger door is STILL frozen shut to the seal along the window. Oh, and then there's the wind chill... give or take, it's been between -30° and -40°. That's the point where Celsius and Fahrenheit don't really even matter anymore...

Anyone else feeling a bit chilly? :nono:

Guess I should mention that while the South Pole's current temperature is hovering around -25°F, it *is* technically summer there.

4 words: Sucks to be you. ;) Forecast here in chilly Canada calls for 42 degrees and sunshine.

I'm still kinda disappointed in the whole global warming thing. We were supposed to get California's weather without having to put up with the people in California. So far, we've got the same old thing.

Guess that's why the weather for the last "Winter" olympics was so dismal. Was 48* here today, melting some of the snow & ice. More snow coming by the weekend.

Man, has it been warm anywhere this winter? My father moved to Alabama to get away from the cold weather, and he says its been fairly cold there too. A couple of days were even colder than here in central New York.

That was pretty damn funny at the time - Whistler is usually a pretty damn safe bet. The problem was the events that they decided to hold elsewhere... some of the local mountains are OFTEN without snow, and everyone here knows that, so why the hell would they let 'em schedule events there? Pure idiocy.

Well, in all fairness, it was an unseasonably warm winter until around Thanksgiving, and then again right around Christmas too. Then it warmed up again, a bit... and now this.

Oh well, supposedly gonna be back up into the 20s and 30s soon, I'll probably be rolling with the targa off it's gonna feel so warm in comparison. :biggrinbo

Yup, I was golfing the day after Christmas. And yesterday Laramie set a new coldest temperature record around -40. So cold my truck couldnt even make a full revolution before the starter was clicking

I heard about that, yeah. My car has been taking like 5-6 seconds to fire up when the weather's been like this. Starting to think wiring up two batteries wired in series might not be a bad idea when it gets this cold...

Not sure how much your computer would appreciate 24v :p. It has been around 25 in the nights in AZ and 40's-50's in the day, and people are freaking out...including myself. Can't wear t shirt and shorts, doesnt make sense!

And global warming is more than just an increase in temps in the winter, its an average temperature increase across the board, and its said that the average increase in the 20th century was .32 degrees (according to wikipedia), I don't think you are going to feel that.. Now don't get me wrong I'm not supporting the theory of global warming but everyone always mentions how much BS global warming is when it gets cold.

You're already using a block heater, right?

I could have and it would have fired up, but its too cold to go out so I stayed at home. Although I have been pondering of running dual batteries like brad was saying. Is it parallel then that will give you 12v?

Yes, wired in parallel, as seen on the LEFT of this diagram: (The right side shows two 6v batteries wired in series)

I took these pictures at the Olympics last year:

I did not expect to see those car cruising downtown Vancouver at the winter olympics. Whistler had enough snow, Cypress had the snow trucked in from Manning Park

No, no block heater here. I may have exaggerated a bit on how long it takes my car to start. It's not terrible, but when cold, it doesn't just wind right up. If it's above 20 or so, it'll fire up in less than a full second. Optima batteries FTW! :)

That's what I meant, wired in parallel, not in series. This is why I need to read up on electrical systems someday...
