There was an episode of southpark....... I believe called "The Biggest Douche in the Universe".... first thing that came to mind when I saw negative responses. And it's pretty much true... pretty much broke the crapp down pretty good, I'd be interested in the Numerology thing.... it'd be interesting to see about it.

You should see that episode of South Park..

Go to www.google.com and enter "barnum effect" ;)
That's what most horoscopes are based on, it's basically what cwapface said.
Most statements in horoscopes are quite vague and apply to the majority of the population, at least with some interpretation.
Also, most horoscopes contain things like "you are intelligent, sensitive, creative" etc., things that pretty much all people like to think of themselves, and reading/hearing it makes them more susceptible to the whole deal.
Many things can be derived from body language, like others alread said.

Just a few examples of what you said:
"It looks like you are a loner": this can be derived from body language or from your general situation.
"things like intuitive, having dreams that might come true... even some sort of visions": well, who doesn't?
"artistic talent, drawing, painting... also language stuff": doesn't that apply to 95% of all girls/women?

My english isn't the best, but I guess you get what I'm trying to say. Just my $0.02.

funny. i had a class a while back where the proffessor did an experiment with us. gave us a sheet with the horoscopes from two days ago but they were mixed up and without the labels so we couldnt tell which one was suppossed to be pisces, virgo, etc. then we were to pick the one horoscope that best matched the day the horoscope was for. we turned that in along with what sign we were so the teacher could match up our answers with our signs. there were maybe 100-150 people in the class, so the sample wasnt tiny or anything. it turned out, less than 8% of the poeple picked their correct horoscope. if we had picked purely at random, we would have gotten more right. the proffessor does this with all his classes and he said this was the normal result.

another story. my aunt used to be into tarot card reading. was convinced the shit was for real. she studied it and learned how to do it, gave readings to people all the time and was amazed at how accurate it was. then one day someone convinced her to do an experiment. she would give the exact opposite reading that the cards read. if it was for real, the the fake, opposite, readings should all be wrong. but they werent. it didnt matter if she read the cards right or wrong, it still had the same effect. she no longer believes in tarot cards.

horoscopes, astrology, numerology, tarot cards, crystal balls, ... are all based on the simple fact that 99% of humans are suckers. we are social animals and have a very deep seeded need to believe in something "bigger" than ourselves. to be part of a group. that part of human nature is very easily manipulated and has been manipulated over and over and in many different ways since the dawn of civilization. untill a person comes to realize this simple fact, they will be a victim. sure, most of this victimization is realatively harmless, but it can easily get out of hand rather quickly.

I would rephrase that and state:
horoscopes, astrology, numerology, tarot cards, crystal balls, ... are all based on the simple fact that 99% of humans are alike.
We all have the same basic fears, hopes, dreams, instincts, aspirations etc. like everyone else. We just like feeling special so we pretend we are all unique and different. But you really can't say something about anyone specific that basically doesn't apply to everyone else also (a lot or a little but it will still apply). And as stated, the more vague the "reading" is, the more people fall for this rather nifty trick. But it's just that, a trick. Just like you can go to a magic show and be perplexed, doesn't mean the laws of physics have been broken during the show. You just got cleverly fooled. And it was fun! :)

By the way, me standing beside you has more gravitational influence than whatever the hell the planets are doing billions of miles away.

so you are saying that %99 of us are completely alike, how?
Because no one is alike but people stive for certain goals that may be the same.
because what i got out of your statement is that a Jock and a Nerd are the same, and I going to have to say thats completly false.

he's not talkin about physical differences, differences in opinnion, or things like that, shawn is referring to the basic choices of life, most of us dont want to die, most of us want to be successful, most of want to be happy, most of us want sex,

calling someone intuitive gets yourself a good chance of being right, becuase how can we measure intuition? If before someone says that you're driving along and you switch lanes just before an accident occurs you're going to credit your intuition, shawn was not saying we're all automaton clones, but that becuase we're human we have basically the same desires, goals, etc..

apparantly most of us are pretty skeptical/realistic on this forum. So naturally we're gonna look down on any mistical, spiritual, cosmic, stuff. Personally, if it can't be proven with science, I don't buy it. So, for someone to claim that they can add/subtract/divide/multiply a few numbers together or look at where the stars and planets are, and be able to read the future, I'm gonna call shenanegans. And for anyone that believes in any of that stuff, I got some swamp land in Florida I'd like to sell to you.

We're, for the most part, reality based folks here, cars are reality, you can feel, touch, smell, taste them etc... people who like physical results from their efforts probably tend not to put so much wieght in somethign that is completely mystical.

besides...this was/is a pretty decent thread, just becuase we all didn't come to your same conclusion/point and the convo didn't go the exact direction you wanted, does that mean it was a waste?

Personally I think it's fun to read astrology/ numerology stuff. But I give it absolutely no weight because like others have said- it's very vauge stuff that could apply to just about anyone in some way. And usually I match up with other "signs" more than my own, so I don't think it's at all accurate. But it's still fun and it makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. :)
