First off, I HATE fixing my friend's cars. It's always due to neglect, something they could have easily fixed earlier, but now has blossomed into this big problem. Naturally they all come back to me for help, and it frustrates me.
So, my friend asks me to find him a cool car, the thought being that if he has a cool car, he thinks he'll want to take care of it rather than a shitty one. I understand that, it's cool. So, naturally, I get him a Supra.
A week passes, he loves the car, but it suddenly stops working. I tell him it's probably an ignition issue, as it was running a little rough when we got it, and the previous owner was some dumb girl who took NO care of the car. I agree to fix it, I feel bad, as I was the one who picked this car out for him.
So, I replace the plugs, the cap, and rotor, which should have made a world of difference, as the old ones were gross. It doesn't start. I do some more checking, and notice there's no fuel flowing when I engage the pump. "The fuel pump's bad". I get frustrated, and tell him I don't want to change his damn pump, take it to the mechanic.
The mechanic tells him the pumps bad, and it's going to cost $800. He calls me back. Reluctantly, I agree to fix it. So, I drop the tank, and notice it's very light. Sort of like there's no gas in it. I put 10L of gas in it, and hey, the pump magically works now! I spent 4 hours in the cold dropping, and putting the tank back in only because it was out of gas.
Previous owner neglected to tell us the gas gauge didn't work. Funny because when it stopped, the first thing I said to him was "Is it out of gas?" "Of course not, it still has half a tank". I thought to my self "Does the gas gauge work?" But no, I just kept that to myself. Car runs PERFECT now. Never been better. Bah!
