yeah it can be rough at first and in the end, but in the middle its quite fun!! but hey some ppl just want to turn wrenches for the rest of their lives im one of them.

nice. yeah the idea was fun but i'm not cut out for it. i dont like working with grime.

now..working on clean cars...hell yeah. i'm just lazy and when things start to get grimy (like on my 21 year old car) things start pissing me off.

although there is NOTHING like the feeling you get when you do something right and the car starts up when you're done... my BHG fix felt awesomely good....:icon_bigg

working on other's people shitboxes all day that they can't maintain then coming home to work on the supra...

I'd never touch the supra again. Working on cars is a hobby of mine, maybe if i got paid to build em up, but a normal mechanic? fuck no...

I want to become certified so i CAN work in a custom shop... i dont really want to do underwater welding, or anything crazy like that... and i wouldnt limit myself to just welding, i would love to rebuild engines, and make custom intake/exhaust manifolds, and other crazy shit like that for somebody. I dont want to own a shop, i would want to work under somebody, and i would'nt mind working for a race car organization.

Companies like Driftmotion, and other companies like Punishment-Racing(DSM shit) And even some of the honda people who fabricate stuff, thats what i would really want to do. Then if i really do hate it, i'll go back to school and get an automotive engine rebuilder degree and try that out...

but this is how i see it...
welding can be used in every automotive aspect, as well as a TON of other jobs, knowing how to work on cars is beneficial, but i can see more long term benefits from welding. So thus i want to do welding first...

Anybody know anything about America River College in Sacramento, CA? i live an hour and a half south of it... so im thinking thats where i'll go and get my welding degree. There certified from the AWS too...

I consider myself quite a good arc welder for my age. I can keep a straight bead at a steady pace using 3 different rods, 6011, 6013, and 7014. I recently got the fillet welds down almost perfectly. I'm practicing welding upside down, and on my back and side. It's something I can see myself doing in the future.

And my penetration is good, the metal bends before the bead pops!!

somehow...in my late-night doing-homework tiredness... that came out as a HILARIOUS sexual innuendo. i'd laugh but i'm in a computer lab with a few other students.

thank you.

back to work...:sarcasm:

Must be an Aussie thing ;) (Or other places as well).

Either way, it's almost never spelled weldor over here. (Mozilla even tries to tell me it's spelled wrong).

It is bad for some people and I hear what your saying. Its a Dirty thankless job people think im screwing them 24/7 im called a liar and a thief(i have never ripped anyone off ever) But I still go to work every morning because I love it, And Rennat thats what you need. If you want to weld do it, in a month or year you dont like it then move on but either way GOOD LUCK with your choice. Welding is somthing that will always need to be done so good luck learning!

Being certified is means nothing. When you are certified, it means you are certified for a specific spec. There are thosands of specs, each one you need certified for. Being certified just means that you passed a test for a certain application of welding. Say, over head 6031 rosin rod arc on low carbon steel. That would be one certification. I used to have a hundred certifications for welding, but they all expired. Knowing how to weld, and being certified are two different things. any idiot can be certified for one type of weld. Does not mean he can weld anything else. BTW welding sucks, many a scar & sun burn to prove it.

i'm a certified stainless pipe welder. i started welding in school at 15.

right now i manufacture food processing equipment. it's ok money and i enjoy doing it.

if you want to make money in welding, move to seattle and get a job with the naval shipyard. you'll be decommissioning and refurbishing subs most of the time but they pay you to go to school and when you retire, you can get a job in the aerospace industry. :bigthumb:

don't bother with the underwater welding. the risk to payoff ratio in very unbalanced.

While I'm not certified(loved to be though), I still weld full time. You really only need to be certified to do special jobs, but if you're not aiming for that, you really don't need one.
