Are Camshafts labeled?

I rebuilt my supra, almost 2 years ago and never got it to run after rebuilding. Ill save all that detail and tell you I've tried almost everything.

Recently, I rebuilt another car and had the same issues my supra is having when starting and immediately realized on this car (a Dual Overhead Mazda Protege) that I had put the intake cam on the exhaust and vice versa. Soon as I switched the cams and re-timed it, it fired right up.

So I am thinking I could have done the same thing on the Supra, and am wondering if the Exhaust and Intake cams are labeled for what one goes on what side, and then I am wondering what is the cam lobe position on Cylinder 1 when at TDC?

The exhaust cam has a gear on the end to drive the cam position sensor, so it's easy to tell the difference. If you switched the two, the car wouldn't run at all (no CPS signal). IIRC the 7M is non-interference, so even if you did, nothing should be damaged. Aside from your pride, of course.

As for your car not running, try pulling codes. it's usually something simple, like the AFM sensor, a big boost leak, ignition coils connected to the wrong cylinders, etc

oh yeah. The gear :-/ shoot, I know I didn't mess that up because the CPS spins when I crank.
well, so much for that idea, back to the drawing board, thanks Enraged.
