So Im putting my engine back together. Block was magnafluxed, bored .30 over with matching JE forged pistons. Shot peened and polished stock rods. walbro fuel pump. complete new gaskets(metal hg) new clutch/flywheel. I am going to break in my engine with the stock ct26 and then upgrade it to the Lipp stage 5 turbo. I am worried that I will need to go with bigger injectors eventually. Are the 550's enough for 500whp. Truth is that is my goal. I dont plan on making more power than that(and yes I know Im not too close to it but I will be) Will any other size injector work with the lexus afm? or is the sensor designed for the 550. thanks

-500RWHP is out of the range on 550's...
-You'd be wise to NOT try and do 500HP on a piggyback as the lexus AFM isn't going to raise fuel cut enough for that power level.

thats just jdub. the problem is we see alot of guys come on there and try and set goals that they dont know enough about and then expect the older guys to chime in with a cookbook style answer. while 550s could in theory do 500 rwhp its a very very bad idea as the injectors would basically need to be static (open) all the time. 80% duty cycle is about the max most people are comfortable with.

if you skipped the explanation I posted above the answer is get 720's and you will be good to go.

Which is not going to happen ;)

Might want to read this Brett:
Dealing With the "Oldschool" Guys

Brett - My little comment was provoked by your "without getting all Bill Nye the Science Guy" comment in another thread. If you're going to dish it out, be prepared to get the same in return...time to grow a thicker skin. Me busting your ass a tiny bit like above was actually mild ;)

Like I said before, if you don't want to know how the parts of this motor *actually* work (and interact as a system), you are in for a lot of problems. The majority of the answers for this car when looking at power upgrades (like fuel) is "it depends"...get used to it.

BTW - using the RC calculator (which is very easy to use) points out a very important thing...injector sizing depends on fuel pressure. To keep 720cc injectors under an 80% duty cycle, FP will need to be 40 psi. Using a stock pump to sustain this kind of FP is a crap shoot...that means larger injectors or a bigger fuel pump. As usual, it's not a canned answer.

just wanting to research my options so I dont buy 1 set of injectors and then get a little further down the road and have to buy a bigger set. I try to think ahead. Im not ignorant. I know when my current setup is back in my car I wont be anywhere close to my goal of 500whp. But I also know the other upgrades that I have planned and I am wanting to set my car up to handle that as it nears. thanks for the help.

I stated that I had a bigger fuel pump. ^^

LOL...some of you guys crack me up. I said that to support my "it depends" statement in that post. More of a general knowledge advantage when you use the math to figure out stuff like this for yourself vs looking for the cookbook answer.

Good luck...it should be an interesting process for you ;)

if you do the basic math you will see that at 80% duty cycle that the max amount of horsepower 6 550cc injectors will handle is about 420 horse power.

making me wish that instead of spending my money on the 550cc injectors that i had purchased some 720s instead...

Yeah over 500hp isnt a good idea on 550 inj. ask me im just getting done with a rebuild because of it but i have heard of people doing it

bumping up your fuel pressure will let you approach 500hp with 550cc injectors. this however depends entirely on your fuel pump.

hey hey hey lets not steer him too wrong here! @ 100% duty cycle, 43.5 psi, you only need 529cc injectors to hit 500hp! :biglaugh:

jdub - i hear ya man, im at ~400rwhp and the amount of work required to make it daily driven, street-able and full functional was alot more than than i was expecting. tis fun to dream (of 500) though....

Personally - I've got a set of 1000cc injectors that's going in the next motor ;)
