Why is that surprising? Only reason we get lint and buttons is because of us not asking for high prices. Duh!

The first had a great interior, decent exterior and a BHG. The second had a decent motor, primer for paint and a PERFECT interior (except for being burgundy lol). Both were under 90k miles to boot!
Although...I got them back in high school, pre-TFATF days, not sure how big of a difference that might make.
i saw a 92 at pcc in pasadena and i took a picture of it, i zoomed in on the mileage and it said like 9k...i need to post that damn picture.
mine was appraised at $7500. That was back before I started doing a lot of resto and performance mods to it. I need to get it re-done.
Are any of these "appraisals" worth a hill of beans to our insurance companies? The KBB or whatever they use is always so low.
mine for some reason was rated ~1500usd for some reason by my insurance, and they said, that condition or other parts dont matter, the rate is firm, because it's written in the book... Duh, I even showed them all the damn invoices from toyota dealership which ware ~13-14 000usd

I hear of plenty of people in the over there modifying their cars, not telling their insurance companies about the increase value and then whining when the shit hits the fan they're offered a couple of peanuts and half a used Kleenex tissue for a claim.
Insurance companies won't pay a penny over what they have to. Unless you have it in writing that it's worth XXXXXX and it has X, Y and Z parts fitted and that you're paying premiums for said car, your appraisals are about as much use as a water proof towel.
My insurance company actually requested the appraisal so that they know how much my car is worth to them, rather than just going with a blue book value.whowouldfigga;1060281 said:
Well my appraisal was done my Nostalgic Enterprises, they are a Corvette Specialist here in Iowa in Valley Junction, and the reason these are important is because if you ever wanted to refinance your supra for whatever reason, maybe to roll in a rebuild or something, a bank obviously doesnt see our cars being worth more then the shitty book value. So if you get an appraisal, and it's done by a professional, they will usually let you refinance 90% of what it appraises at. And insurance gets a copy of the appraisal as well, but that doesn't necessarily mean that's all they'd reimberse you because mine is still insured for 25k if something ever happens. An appraisal is just to let the bank, insurance company, or whoever else know what they car should sell for not what it would cost to replace. And thanks everyone for the feedback.
Good info here! there are quite a few threads on the dark side...sf as mk4 guys get theirs appraised and usually get insured for declared value.

An appraisal company or appraisal expert can paint a real pretty picture but remember he / she are in the business of making a living with appraisals. Call your insurer and if they don't meet your needs its time to go shopping around.

I had mine apprasied about 3 years ago, it came back at 12,400USD. I tried to give it to my insurance and they wouldn't accept it and wanted there company to appraise it so I took it in to them and 2 weeks later they said they would only cover it to the blue book 3,500USD.
So now AAA insurance has custom/classic car insurance and will insure me for the higher amount but I have to wait till 2009 so its 20 years old. I just won't drive it till then.

Must have to depend on your insurance company, because mine was perfectly happy with my appraisal, and even though my car appraised for 14,500, it's insured for 25,000. And like i said, i've talked to many banks and credit unions around here and they all say the same thing, "Get an appraisal from Nostalgic."
